The Times-Standard dives into the current lawsuit facing Humboldt County by the innocuous-sounding group “Humboldt Sunshine.” Reporter James Faulk writes the “battle over Humboldt County’s housing element has been brewing over the past two years, with two different pro-development entities taking up the fight in succession.” The other group referred to here is “HELP,” or the Humboldt Economic and Land Plan.
But are they different? The name “Rob Arkley” doesn’t appear anywhere in the article despite being the force and cash behind “the two different pro-development entities.”
Perhaps it’s Humboldt’s definition of “separate but equal.”

dat missuh okley sho am a fine genniman lookin out fo us po folks wefare
Can anybody update the tragic war he instigated between his wife and her sisters and parents? Lsst I heard it was taking a terrible toll on the whole bunch of ‘em.
don u be tocking bad bouts missuh okley he am de champeen of us po fokes
This should be quite a shoot out. I heard that the county hired the Bragg, Perlman et al law firm.
Just as long as they keep Andy Stunich off the case it should be fine.
Arkley is indeed the Great and Powerful Oz behind the screen in both cases, and a lot of people think this is all about an attempt to develop land he owns or will soon own as Palco goes under. But personally I see it as nothing more than an exerise in the display of raw power.
Why do you say gloomy suit…just because they take a different point of view to you Carol? Frankly, I think that whenever the private section seeks to make government follow the law, we should be supporting it. You seem to only support that in which you agree with the “ends” sought, irrespective of whether or not goverment is acting withing it’s legal parameters.
Anon 11:27, why do you believe that Humboldt County is not in compliance with the law?
Christ – how long do you have and on what topic. This place is famous for turning its head to the law or by taking a legally indefensible position.
The county routinely ignores state law on planning issues. Says sue us if you have the money and if you don’t we win because most individuals simply don’t have the money to force them to comply. Its not like baykeeper or epic that can have their attorney fees reimbursed so do litigation as a form of fundraising.
They rarely comply with public record act requests (at least not to the ones that I have known to be sent.)
Look at the Tooby fiasco. The judge threw it out after the county rested its case in chief because they failed to make a case.
These are just a couple of things off the top of my head. There really are so many more its mindblowing.
Even though I don’t like HELP, and I don’t like Rob and his cohorts; 4:00 is absolutely right about the County.
As long as a project will make the County money, or is the pet project of a friend of a friend of a Sup, then the County is all for it. If you happen to be a *normal* person on the other side, you may as well forget getting a fair shake — until you show up with your lawyer. IF you can afford it!
Not the way it’s supposed to be….
Right, like Roger Rodoni’s friend (and landlord) Pacific Lumber.
whatever, Heraldo…keep beating that dead horse. If the FPPC has NO problem with Rodoni’s landlord/tenant relationship, then there’s no problem.
“If the FPPC has NO problem…then there’s no problem.”
Anonymous is, apparently, referring to the chronically under-funded California Fair Political Practices Commission.
Such unvarnished faith in these modern times is refreshing.
“The titles of these groups are so Orwellian. HELP is of no help to Humboldt County and Humboldt Sunshine brings a gloomy lawsuit.”
Well said. And foreclosure-magnate Rob Arkley Jr. is just a “philanthropist”. And George W. Bush is an intelligent, kind and heroic statesman.
The dead horse is over on Fred’s Blog. And thanks heraldo for keeping the Rodoni malfeasance in the public eye. Roger may not have been guilty in the FPPCs eye, but in the eyes of anyone with integrity he is as dirty as they come.
There’s no getting around the appearance of bias when it comes to Rodoni’s relationship with Pacific Lumber.
$350 a month for 9,000 acres, a house, etc. from Pacific Lumber? And Roger Rodoni refuses to recuse himself from Board of Supervisors votes that impact Pacific Lumber? Roger Rodoni is corrupt. Anyone who denies that obvious fact is either stupid, a liar, or both.
They often go together.
