In case it’s not clear, anonymous comments are accepted. The email field can be left blank. If you don’t enter a name, your comment will be labeled “anonymous.”

    Why, Heraldo, WHY?

That’s a very impressive array of local history books. Where was that taken? Is that your personal library or perhaps the Humboldt Room at the county library or up at Humboldt State or the historical society? I’m duely impressed if that is your personal collection. Do you have “The Quest for Qual-a-wa-loo”?

I went on a mission to gather books for the photo. Glad you like it. Of course, it’s only a sample of the many books written about Humboldt County.

Do you have “The Quest for Qual-a-wa-loo”?

No, but now you have me curious.

WordPress offers features that are good for the Humboldt Herald. Just wait till I start uploading pdf’s!

Too bad the new version doesn’t include the legal notices from the owners of the photos you steal, giving you permission to use them.

Simply having a link to the place you stole it from doesn’t count. You have to actually contact the owner and ask permission to use it. That is the law. If you can’t follow the law then expect to be sued, fined, or jailed.
Some action has already been taken, but of course it is up to the image owners to pursue private claims.
A large list is being prepared for the appropriate government bodies, so that laws broken will not go unpunished. Of course you could remove every single *image* that you did not create from your site, and from now on ask permission to use someone else’s work on your blog. That would put a stop to any and all legal action against you. Better do it fast, too, because we’re going to go through the archive and get notarized screen shots of EVERYTHING, starting sometime this week.

I’m posting this publicly so that everyone is aware of the situation. We don’t ask for anyone to support our efforts, but we do ask that people think about how photographers or other artists make a living. Is it by giving away their work or is it by selling their work?
How would you like it if someone came into your shop and stole an item, and then tried to tell you that because it wasn’t locked up it’s okay to steal it?

Welcome to the media world. Play by the rules or don’t play at all.

Sorry,I like the other site much better, something with the font gets to me here. But I’m sure that you’ll work with everything and make this a very productive blog.

  9. Heraldo Says:

You can adjust the font size on your browser and see if that helps. But I will look into matching the font here with the old blog. Thanks for your feedback.

  10. Jennifer Savage Says:

And I think you should add a link to KSLG radio!

  11. Heraldo Says:

Oh, I forgot! Thanks for the reminder.

  12. Heraldo Says:

That cover of Smooth Criminal rocks, Jen!

Do you mean if I just write a comment in this here box, it will be posted even without I give you my email address, my mom’s maiden name, and all like that?

  14. Anonymous Says:

    Wow.

  15. Anonymous Says:

Agree the font is small and unattractive. But the content, I’m sure, willl continue to be first-rate. Thank you for your service.

  16. Heraldo Says:

    Thanks, 7:22.

I adjust the font on nearly every page I visit, including the blogspot blogs. If you use Firefox, hit the “ctrl” and “+” keys at the same time (no shift necessary) to increase font size. If you use IE go to view > text size to adjust. In the meantime I’ll try to figure out how to bump it up from behind the scenes.

  17. Heraldo Says:

    mresquan and 7:22:

I increased the font to a legible size. Does that help?

  18. Carson Park Ranger Says:

Ouch, somebody get this giant type out of my eye!

Other than that, this new blog looks great.

Say, wait a minute. Aren’t a couple of those volumes in the header missing from the library? And did you get permission to use the images of each and every one of those book spines? Don’t you know that these book-jacket designers need to be compensated?

  19. Heraldo Says:

    Shhhhh….don’t tell! I didn’t even ask.

  20. Anonymous Says:

Heraldo, the new look is great. We’re big fans of your posts and the responses that follow. Thanks.

KSLG sucks. They play the worst new stuff they can find. What a radio station. And who in the heck would actually call themselves “Doctor Sid Reagan the IIIrd?” More like “Doctor Sid Reagan the Turd.” Truth in advertising.
