I was surprised to see the KVIQ building near Costco for sale. Do they have any local presence now?

  2. Fred Mangels Says:

KVIQ went by the wayside years ago. This area isn’t big enough to support two commercial channels.

  3. Fred Mangels Says:

I might add I’m surprised it’s taken so long for them to put it up for sale. How long has it been since KVIQ left? At least ten years I would think. Maybe more?

  4. Big Al Says:

Some of that stuff was from his KIEM days, Rick is totally awesome.
He is a masterful director and can extract fantastic performances from his actors, many times just ordinary people.
If you remember Max G. Arnold he is a big part why, making great spots for what some people might consider an ambulance chaser.
    Rock on Dude!

  5. Carson Park Ranger Says:

Funny! I chuckled through them all.
One never sees talent like this in large television markets.

  6. J Warren Says:

Thanks for putting this up H

It’s inspired stuff. I thought the Randy Jewel TP tire spot from the 80’s would make the top 20. Oh well, they’re all good.

I got to do one. The Fireworks promo with Dave Silverbrand and Leslie L and Melanie Kuhnel. It was a hoot.

But mainly, thanks Rick for your beautiful/funny work here.

The PSA with the troll was TOO HOT FOR TV! Gross.

Just to let you all know, KVIQ-TV6 is still in operation. If you are watching CBS locally, you are watching KVIQ-TV. It is now housed in another building in Eureka. The 1800 Broadway facility faced an awful death. During the Christmastime earthquake of 1997, the building cracked in many places. As the rains fell, the roof leaked and in came the mold. By 2004, the employees had to vacate the premises, but the equipment stayed inside. Remember, the dreaded Clear Channel owned KVIQ-TV until it downsized it into oblivion. Rick St. Charles was one of the last to go. In 2006, Raul Broadcasting out of Santa Maria purchased KVIQ-TV and appointed Dave Silverbrand the station manager.

I had a lot of happy memories there starting in 1983. Rick St. Charles was a great co-worker and is a inspiration. The one to look out for is his son Matt.

To quote Rick’s K&M Glass spot..”He does such beautiful work”

  10. High Finance Says:

OK, I’m convinced, Rick Charles will do my next commercial.

How do I get ahold of him anymore ?

  11. Saint Chuck Says:

You can contact him through his website at ricksaintcharles.com He still loves to make funny ads, especially with his son Matt, who produced the recent Wildberries “Tomato” and “Carrot” ads as well as the
Sole Savers “Pilgrim” and “Fantasy Island” spots. (Oops! Sorry, Ross! I meant to say, “commercials”. A
spot, as we all know, is something a fly leaves on the wall.

  12. Not A Native Says:

Best recent local commercials were the ones for Celtic construction with the “suggestive” scripts.

In the last one, he dissed the prudes who took offense at his clever rhetoric.

  13. Leslie Says:

Ah .. the good ol’ days. I didn’t know about this until someone I met yesterday clued me in. I had to check it out.

I was very happy to see my favorite (Sports Guys) made the top 20 — I also loved the one where the little boys break the window and the K&M Glass guys fix it. For some reason, my memory is foggy on the Fourth of July fireworks with Dave, J and my mom.

I had totally forgotten about the one where the production guys were playing ping pong, they broke a window and I yelled at them too. Rick likes to get people to play out of character because as everyone knows, I rarely yell at anyone. Except my boys and I don’t even yell at them anymore.

Someone (Carson Park Ranger?) commented about not finding this kind of talent in large markets — there’s a reason — if you’re smart, you stay here. You never make a lot of money and don’t have a lot of fame, but you get to do what is important to you and your community, you don’t have a lot of big egos telling you what you can or can’t do and it works here.

    Thanks for sharing everyone.
