Mending bridges

Nielsen-Gallegos-07-07-09

Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos presents Eureka Police Chief Garr Nielsen with a check for $94,298.  The money will pay for new in-car video systems for EPD, and symbolizes a healing of the relationship between the two offices.

    Thought the county was broke…

  2. The Monitor Says:

pass through money from the fed?

  3. Anonymous Says:

A better healing gesture would be to stop slapping the wrists of the hardest of hardened criminals that EPD arrests.

Mike Jones, speaking on an unrelated matter, says “that’ll make the blog.” Gee, I wonder which blog he was talking about.

It’s nice that the police can now watch movies on their new in vehicle video systems. Maybe the money would have been better spent to buy some $300 video cameras from Costco and put them on the dash and press record when the officer exits the car or taken with him to gather evidence at the crime scene.

MIke’s gonna become a blog snob before ya know it

Yeah 8:28, they could mount them on their guns and sell the footage to Americas most stupid snuff films.

Garr is becoming a regular presence at Democratic fundraisers. He was at the fundraisers for Thompson, Wiggins and Chesbro, and he attended the Northcoast Environmental Center dinner and auction — the first time a police chief had attended the NEC fundraiser.

He was a celebrity server at the most recent Democratic event, dishing up pasta along side Larry Glass, Bonnie Neely and Mark Wheetley. We are fortunate in this county to have a progressive DA and chief of police of the largest city.

How do you know he isn’t at Republican ones, too? You following him around or something?

  10. bull moose Says:

The party of GW Bush, Sarah Bailin’, Mark Sanford and Dick Cheney in Humboldt County is too weak to hold large events, save for an occasional Republican womens lunch which draws about 30 people and nobody is under 65 except Dennis Mayo, Rob Arkley and Chris Crawford.

In case you haven’t noticed, all of the elected officials important enough to hold large events in Humboldt County are Democrats

  11. Anonamoose Says:

bull moose…Sarah Balin’? I hope she is not the face/ass of the Republican Party (should that be capitalized, my spell check won’t comment?). My guess is just wait, this economy, locally and nationally, is headed toward the s@#t hole and we all better hold on.

  12. Tapperass Says:

The Caption makes it seem like the DA cut the check from his own check book. Now that is a gesture.

For some of you who are so touchy about how the police do their job, be glad and rejoice. There will be cameras now to record arrests being made, at least from their patrol cars. It will be proof, showing how well they do it. My guess is it will show they are well trained professionals. I sure wish the Chief had a camera during those grillings in Tyson’s office.

The annual Republican of the Year dinners have a couple hundred people attending.

Garr Neilson has never bothered to attend.

    Time to get real,

You are 100% correct. Cameras in the patrol cars can only be a good thing, for the protection of good cops and civilians alike.

  16. mresquan Says:

Well there were cameras in the courthouse where Martin Cotton died, has that helped matters any?Having cameras doesn’t make a difference when those in control of them do as they wish.

Exactly on the video cameras AND AUDIO RECORDATION DEVICES so that any evidence on a report is ALSO represented by “uncut and unfiltered” digital video and audio. False Police Reports are filed often enough that recordation devices is a “no brainer” need for the person in the inferior position (ie. the person(s) DESCRIBED the report).

As far as 10:45 pm’s comment on “training” – additionally remember, those who “construct” a security system “KNOW” where the “DEAD SPOTS” in coverage exist. So, pull up on a scene with the patrol car pointed in a certain direction so camera gets nothing, etc., etc., etc.,…… again, audio devices should be on “the peace officer” for uncut and unfiltered recordation – kinda like that little micro/receiver with the chord hanging down over chest pocket.

The annual Republican of the Year dinners have a couple dozen old white people attending.

I fixed it for you, High Finance.

What does someone do to earn the honor of Republican of the Year? Block children from poor families from accessing health care? Repossess wheelchairs from the disabled? Ensure young people have sex without access to birth control?

  19. unanonymous Says:

I don’t think it symbolizes anything.

A healing process? I didn’t know they were sick.

The moneh probably comes from a grant or asset monies. A nice gesture but it will make some cases tighter for prosecution and that will also help the DA’s office.

    This is a joke people.

  22. HumRed Says:

If you look at the May 21,2009 clip from old glory on this this blog and count tables etc, you will see over 125 people at that lunch. Little larger than usual which runs 60-85 at the 3 or 4 a year I have time to attend. Annual dinners have as stated several hundred. Although I am neither a republican or a democrat, I know many good people from both parties. You bull moose are just full of shit. Just a nasty vicious spineless piece of poop.Your employer should block all your internet blog access. I will not defend the economic policies of the last 8 years because I disagree with them strongly. However what is being done in the USA right now under your changeling is putting us into a hole we may not be able to recover from for generations.

Bush left us at rock bottom in a depression. Our “changeling” has nowhere to go except up.

Bullmoose if you support our dimwit DA you need professional help. To say this guy is progressive is an insult to anyone who believes in building a better community. He has trashed every liberal reform in the criminal justice system that I can think of.

  25. HumRed Says:

Screw that dumb shit, Bush certainly did us no good but there were many other factors that put us where we are now. If you are to stupid to look at the whole picture then you got what you deserve.

  26. Ed Says:

Wow Red, I’m glad you’re not my Chiropractor, one slip of the tongue and more than my back would snap.

  27. Anonymous Says:

HumRed broke open the bottle a little earlier than usual today.

The right attacked FDR 75 years ago like the HumReds of this country are attacking Obama now. All FDR accomplished was to prevent a second civil war in this nation with the New Deal.

    Henchman,

Is a recordation device more expensive than a recording device?

  30. Anonymous Says:

You say recording, I say recordation,
some wise guy anonymous feller says recordabration,
    recording, recordation, recording, recordabration,
Let’s call the whole thing off.

(A tip of the hat to the lovely Cole Porter!)

Hey, this IS a comedy post!

Hey High Finance, maybe Garr has not been invited to the Republican events, did that ever occur to you?

I bet if you invited him, he would attend. I think he is doing everything he can to simply reach out to the entire community.

  32. Time to get real Says:

At the council meeting this week there was a big sigh of relief when it was learned that the police officers were willing to give up about half a million in vacation pay etc. to allow the city to get very close to a balanced budget. So what is it with Jeff sticking in a caveat that the city could still lay off officers? Can anyone explain what his thinking might be? Could he have been upset about the DA’s check?

  33. bull moose Says:

Republican of the Year. Isn’t that like being named Nazi of the Year? If I was named Republican of the Year I would sue for defamation.

  34. Da Man Says:

I doubt you’d be named Republican of the Year so I think you’re ok bull moose.

  35. Time to get real Says:

Judging by the news today, the republicans are all over at C street house in Washington, learning how to be little dictators and twist Christianity to achieve their idea of what the new world order might look like. Can you believe this Ensign guy from Nevada? Amazing what a little fellowship leads to.

  36. Anonymous Says:

I doubt if anyone on this blog/thread could be Republican of the year, or even week, except maybe me. Yes I’m one of those horrible Republicans.
