(Press Release from Carl Young).
Welcome to your North Coast Stand Down. Our mission is to support all veterans.
We are here for three brief days to serve you, and to empower you. Volunteers from all over the north coast will again gather, veterans and civilians alike, to provide you with services that could change your life.
This is our fourth year in supporting the mission of supporting all veterans. To this end we provide free food, lodging, haircuts, transportation, entertainment, medical enrollment and supplies. Perhaps even more important, you will be among a group of people who appreciate what you have done for your country. The camaraderie that results is just another positive reason to take part in this years stand-down, October 2nd though the 4th at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
It is our hope that we can provide you with whatever it takes to make your life easier, and the lives of your spouses and children. Widows of veterans will find counselors available to help them sort through the benefits they are entitled to. You have served your country and now it’s time for it to come through for you.
There’s a lot of reasons why we have these stand downs, and they all amount to the same overall goal; to reach out to all veterans and to welcome them home. This stand down is for you.
Have a question, want to volunteer or want make a donation contact our Director Jennifer Fusaro, at the Veterans Enrollment and Transition Service, at HSU, (707) 826-6191 or director@northcoaststanddown.org or visit our website www.northcoaststanddown.org or by mail to North Coast Stand Down, PO Box 1012 Arcata, CA 95518.

Thanks for sending in the press release, Carl. May the word spread far and wide.
Since you brought it up, the Stand Down provides care for veterans’ dogs for the three days they are there. Far too many of our veterans are homeless, and would be unable to attend without somewhere safe to leave their dogs.
At last year’s event, dogs were provided with kennels, grooming, lots of good quality food, and I believe they were even given free veterinary check-ups, including shots if needed.
The Stand Down is a great event which brings together a broad range of services to help and support our veterans to whom we owe so much.
Thanks for running this press release Heraldo.
It is very important and I’ve seen veterans lives turned around (positively) because of the services offered at Stand Down.
I know they (Stand Down directors) are looking for volunteers in the community who want to help out on this event. Without help from the community Stand Down wouldn’t be possible.
I encourage anyone who wants to support veterans to participate in some way. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks for publishing this Heraldo
Anyone who wants to get involved in getting the word out about Stand Down still has an opportunity to directly help .
Stand Down is a great event that Helps our Veterans and really brings the community together
We still need people to assist with flyer and outreach card distribution and other outreach activities
Anyone who is interested please contact me Rob Ash at robash141@yahoo.com or call 707(616)9861
Thanks
Unless things have changed, there will be live music, tri tip bbq, lots of other great food and all of the services provided. If vets want, they can camp out in their tents and have a campfire.
It should be noted that this is not an event for the general public.
This is a terrific program that deserves all our support. If you can’t volunteer, donate items or money.
We all owe our freedom and rights to these heroes.
Well, they should get our respect and support. Especially when so much has been asked of them.
It’s great to see public support for veterans. At my Cousin’s wedding a few years back in Fresno, She is a career Non-Com (E-8, yeah, pretty damn high up for an enlisted) I found myself in a discussion with several Air-Force sergeants. I was in full “Moviedad” form back then and I was talking about how Bush’s administration was lying about their support of veterans. Of course I got an argument, luckily I had the story:
(http://www.truthout.org/article/bush-cut-veterans-benefits-pay-credit-monitoring) since I was using it in my review of “Blackhawk Down”
I was struck by how the government was spreading lies like fertilizer in the military. While it was pretending to care about the human cost of the war. it was gutting Health, and educational services for veterans.
The one that really got me was that the government was trying to get out of paying for artificial limbs (I’m searching for the link) I don’t think they were successful. but the complaint was that every amputee wanted the latest, most comfortable, high tech prosthesis, and it was costing just too damn much.
When we as citizens learn how we’ve been cheated and lied to by the government, we need to remember that the veterans are first in line for betrayal by their own government. We get inconvenienced while they get killed.
It’s too bad that: “Winter Soldier”

Wasn’t given the same support. But then again if you depend on the corporate news, you never heard of it.
1,700 members out of how many have served over in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a veteran as are my father and brother. I dislike folks like you very much, all your ranting about stuff based on websites made up of special interest groups. No I am not very fond of bush nor do I need to hear all the shit talk. This is one of the first good things I have ever seen H put on this site and I thank Them for it. HERE THAT. THANK YOU!!
Oh, I know you don’t care but it was a good thing.
Hear! Hear!
