The shadowy forces behind Eureka City government are pulling a fast one and hoping you’re too stoned to notice.
Remember when the City Council nixed the Balloon Track forum proposed by Councilman Larry Glass? Good news! Councilman Jeff Leonard — who spends more time these days as candidate Jeff Leonard — is heeding the call of concerned residents.
Yessiree, candidate Leonard will host the very forum the moron majority previously shot down.
Why? Because he wants your vote! And you’re too high to remember Jeff’s twisting of the issue as a “delay” tactic just two short weeks ago.
Leonard was absent for the final “no” vote on September 17, and Mayor Virginia Bass sided with nay-saying Councilmen Frank Jager and Mike Jones.
At the time, the Humboldt Herald expressed surprise that the Council would give up a “chance for a dog-and-pony show highlighting the environmental stewardship of the big box proponents at Security National.”
Well, now we’re going to get one. And Jeff — who has strived to do the bidding of Balloon Track owner Rob Arkley — will be the pony.
The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the City’s Public Marina Building. Show starts at 6:30.

Linda and Larry ought to consult the City Attorney about the legality of this move, especially since the council voted down the idea.
Heraldo,
You’re writing is becoming more assumptive and negative than ever before. Which is too bad.
Jeff is riding a very SHORT sighted pony here. Most of us who keep track of the city”s backroom dealing have seen Jeff pull these see-saw deals before. At least he is predictable. This is a chance for those concerned to at least have a go at him and his handler, Mr. A. Arckley originally said he was willing to spend 20 million to clean up the balloon tract properly. Now he is trying to get a minimum deal done, with the help of his footman. What a sham.
I’m not responsible for putting lipstick on this pig. Or pony.
Bullshit. Spin-Spin-Spin
See Rob, he’s not worthless.

Facebook is interesting.
Maybe there was something in the TS about this forum, I didn’t see it on-line.
One week provides inadequate notification time.
Is there a panel, who’s on it?
Thanks Heraldo!
I betcha Randy Gans is meeting with Leonard right now hashing out the game plan
Why don’t you go to the meeting and ask him to his face?
Why don’t you?
Because I’m not making the assertion that he is.
Funny.
Go on, don’t be shy, ask him a real deep question.
Is the 4 oclock tour of the Balloon Track open to the public?
have a peaceful day,
Bill
And if you go on the tour, wear your rubber boots. Not for the pollutants you might step in, but all that other BS you won’t be able to avoid!!
Jeff pulled a classic double shuffle on this one. He stole Larry’s idea after denying a request for a workshop. Then he (surprise) did a backroom deal and, VOILA, there’s a workshop. Nice twostep, Jeff! I hope Randy and RA won’t find you guilty of ‘delaying’ the cleanup so they have another excuse to chew your ass out in public. Kinda makes you wonder about the Water Board too, doesn’t it?
I thought they just voted not to send a letter. When did they vote not to hold any forum?
The letter would have requested a forum. The Council voted 3-2 against the request.
Heraldo,
I don’t get it. I’m confused. So a Politician says one thing and then does another and that’s confusing? I guess I’m too old to think that’s something different.
The 2010 election cycle is already full of teh crazy.
What Jeff and the Water Board won’t tell you.
“The climate could undergo a strange change for the hotter if the Arkleyville Mall (Marina Center) is built on the Balloon Tract, according to a weather service study. The huge buildings would create a barrier effect, holding back the fogbank that looms over the bay. Even storms could be diverted. This effect would be enhanced by the inward orientation of the buildings, offering few windows to the bay, which might raise temperatures even more. With ocean breezes and cooling fog blocked, Eiureka could suffer Redding-like temperatures of well over 100 degrees. It was rumored that, upon reading this news, Mr. Arkley immediately announced plans for a dude ranch and a water park behind his Home Depot store.”
So now you know what Jeffy is really up to. Hot times ahead.
The last vote was for the RWQCB Interim clean up plan. Jeff has been planning this project workshop for at least 5 months. Heraldo your grasping at straws is pretty funny. I usually get good information from this blog, but this time I think you are the one who is too stoned to get the story straight.
Hey Satan! ….err I mean Rob. Put down the bong and slowly sit down. There has not been any vote on the RWQCB clean up plan. Think hard my stoner friend remember you and Randy made a closed door deal with the RWQCB. It let’s QUE VI off the hook for the 20 million dollar partial clean up, and lets you spend about 1.5 million for a superficial one. The RWQCB is happy and the public is fooled and you get to spend the 18.5 million on subsidizing all of Cheri’s favorite chain stores and big boxes to move in. There, see, I knew you would remember, your so spacey when you mix meds.
So, someone told me that the redwoods “breathe”. Is that true?
They do breathe and they drink as much as 500 gallons of water a day from fog. As luck would have it, they breathe CO2, helping the planet rid itself of our pollution. But the fog and mild weather is the reason they are here. We live in a temperate fog belt.
I think Jeff is in a very dense fog himself. He just doesn’t have the right timber to see the forest for the trees. I think he would do much better in sunnier clims. How about sunny Fortuna?
Boycott Jeff’s forum.
Perhaps Jeff there will reiterate his support for true ward elections in Eureka, then change his mind at council time.
Call it really what it will be: “a great deal of noise and light signifying absolutely nothing.”
Apparently Jeff thinks that by playing both sides of the street, it will average out to a nice ‘moderate’ looking position. Sorry, Jeff. It don’t work that way. (flip flop flip flop flip flop)
