The Eureka City Council will vote Tuesday to extend city manager Dave Tyson’s at-will contract through the end of 2012.
Tyson had announced his retirement last year, but changed his mind sometime around the time the Brady Bunch swept into power.
“Putty in my hands,” he surely thought.
Tyson’s last contract expired at the end of 2010, but the city council approved 3-month extension in December.
The extension follows Tyson’s rough year in 2010 where he had to negotiate a $200,000 settlement to cover for his own alleged actions (and wrongful in-actions) that cost the city 100 G’s and its stellar reputation.
Hope it succceeds, best thing that could happen. By the way I am not a city resident but do have a city of eureka address.
The fear of relying on the private sector(err…Security National) to pay a decent wage and provide benefits was too much for him apparently.

If Eureka hadn’t repeatedly opposed a 101 bypass, CR wouldn’t need to be offering teaching sites in Arcata, McKinleyville and… Eureka!?! When you have a campus in Eureka, it’s a sign of serious gridlock when you open a second site in the same damn town to be accessible to people. Build the damn bypass already.

Good point and how much wasted money on payoffs to get rid of them. Tyson has run a pretty tight ship and most people would agree. There is always room for improvement in any situation. Let the man do his job and give the new council a chance to do theirs, there will be another election and a chance to make any needed corrections.

Tyson is a fool. He could have retired gracefully back to his Cutten digs and watched as the new council dithered its way into infamy. Now he’ll have to try to direct the Circus and the Clown Council and, to some extent, share the responsibility fortheir dithering. They’re unpredictable which can only make his life miserable.
