Ha! Just when you think you know the mindset of our elected officials…Sue is not some scary developer set on building McMansions (or whatever fear objective yet to be discussed) like many folks had predicted Mr. Sundberg may appoint.
Fear brokering sure isn’t very conducive to coming together for the betterment of the entire community.
Replacing Mayo was a great move. Thank you Mr. Sundberg.
Bass will appoint a scary developer type, however. No doubt about it.
Liveable. Man the rednecks are getting scared.
Kudos to Mr. Sundberg (I had both doubts and hopes with regard to the possible outcome, and am happy to see the result – one that will assuredly bring some crucial knowledge and perspective to the Commission). And kudos to Ms. Masten for taking on the difficult position!
Huh.
Masten has a very impressive bio. Not at all the developer’s lackey that many here predicted Sundberg would appoint.
I was strongly critical of Mr. Sundberg for his DUI, and for his handling of the issue when it became public. But credit where credit is due: He appears to have made a good pick for Planning Commissioner.
Sue Masten is a community Treasure.
She had been a well loved Executive Director of the American Heart Association, my first job here. Sue had gone on to represent Humboldt and the Yurok at a formative time on a national level. Her leadership is formidable and has served our county well for the 20 years I have lived here. Sue is smart, personable, experienced, charming and funny. ALL good qualities for a person sure to be stuck in many long and contentious meetings.
Couldn’t have picked a better person, Ryan.
I will take a wait and see approach.
“…smart, personable, experienced, charming and funny. ALL good qualities for a person sure to be stuck in many long and contentious meetings.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if Ms. Bass appointed a person with similar qualities…Perhaps a woman with said attributes to balance out the generally middle-aged+ male board? And to do so in an effort toward consensus (something she has stated her desire for) – rather than appointing a known developer-oriented ideologue.
HOLD THE MAYO !
Ginny will do what shes told.
Congratulations to Susan. Good Luck with your new constituents in representing the 5th District.
Admirable choice by Supervisor Sundberg and Thank You to the services of outgoing Commissioner Mayo:-)~

I’m not familiar with Susan Masten but am heartened by the good words spoken about her here. We can use all the help we can get in these trying times.
Ryan is not the developer’s puppet? Now Healthy Humboldt has to look for another villain?
Ross Rowley @12:19, well said.
tra @ 12:56, get over it.
“tra @ 12:56, get over it.”
Well, if you’re referring to the DUI, I AM getting over it. Sundberg appears to have made an excellent choice in choosing a Planning Commissioner. If he continues to show this kind of leadership, the DUI issue will continue to recede in importance.
The voters spoke, they chose Sundberg, and now he has the opportunity to show all of us that the DUI incident was an isolated incident of poor judgement on his part, rather than an indication of his overall level of maturity and wisdom. I am cautiously optimistic that he is rising to that challenge.
sundburg appoints someone everybody seems to like and you tie that into bass appointing “a scary developer type” Heraldo. i am surprised this wasn’t proof of arkley’s intentions to take over the world starting with eureka. you’re really lame mr. h but i enjoy hearing you whine and complain so i guess keep it up.
I was quoting Mr. Rowley, as are you. Bass is also set to make an appointment, which will likely be announced tomorrow. Try to keep up.
keep up? i’m going to attempt to read the future…
bass will appoint someone tomorrow and you will say…
“(insert appointee name) is an arkley henchman who will attempt to rape the environment while channeling massive amount of capital directly to greedy corporate conservatives.”

Slow and trite. Tune in tomorrow.
