2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

London Olympic Stadium holds 80,000 people. This blog was viewed about 900,000 times in 2011. If it were competing at London Olympic Stadium, it would take about 11 sold-out events for that many people to see it.

  1. tra says:

The section on “where did they come from” says:

“Most visitors came from The United States. Canada & The United Kingdom were not far behind.”

But if you hover over the North America graphic, the stats say: United States 98.8%, Canada 1.1%. That’s “not far behind?”

Also, the graphics in that section seem to suggest a lot of visitors from other continents, which is kinda hard to believe.

One more thing that looked a little odd: Why is it that “Baton Rouge” would be among the top search terms that led people to the Herald?

My New Year’s resolution is to make sure I don’t place among the top 5 commenters on this blog (or any other blog) in 2012!

    Happy New Year, fellow Heraldians.

  2. Anonymous says:

yeah, tra – good luck with that.

  3. Anonymous says:

Baton Rouge = Bat N’ Rouge

    Got it now?

  4. Anonymous says:

The comparison to stadium seating is baloney. “This blog was viewed about 900,000 times” does not mean 900,000 people viewed the blog. The number that matters is “unique visitors,” but WP didn’t tell us that figure. 900K page views could easily be accomplished with 100 regular readers or fewer.

  5. Fred Mangels says:

Baton Rouge = Bat N’ Rouge.

Or isn’t Baton Rouge where the Arkleys place is in Louisiana?

It doesn’t really matter how the words were used here. It all depends on what other people do a search for and where the search engines end up directing them.

  6. Decline To State says:

Oh my, such negativity…seems about right though given the nature of this blog and the people who contribute.

Congratulations Heraldo on providing us with yet another year of this “provocative” forum. I find it very cathartic. Your mission is accomplished and I very much appreciate it.

  7. Plain Jane says:

Happy New Year Heraldoville! 2012 is going to be interesting (ala Chinese curse) with likely dire consequences for political missteps. Getting informed, volunteering and voting is the duty of every patriot. Occupying the voting booths has never been so important with the GOP’s agenda to disenfranchise likely Democratic voters. We can’t afford apathy.

“GOP’s agenda to disenfranchise likely Democratic voters. We can’t afford apathy”

Substitute California Democrat Machine for GOP with their sleazy efforts to illegally influence the redistricting here in California and you’ve got it just right, Jane. Congrats!

  9. Plain Jane says:

You just repeated the BS from ProPublica, shaky foundation which crumbled when facts were applied, 9:35. Congratulations on the first of many lies you will spread this year. Hopefully you’ll improve as the year goes on and provide more of a challenge than this pathetic smear.

  10. Julie Timmons says:

Best wishes for a 2012 that’s better in every way than 2011 was. Thanks for sharing the stats, Heraldo. Very interesting!

  11. Heraldo says:

Happy New Year, everyone. Thanks for your comments, emails, criticisms and links.

  12. Goldie says:

Happy New Year and much thanks to you too Heraldo. And to the entire Heraldo Village. What a group!

  13. anonymous says:

Happy New Year to you Heraldo.
Happy New Year to the original Heraldo too. Free as a bird now.

H’s helpers are doing OK, but this blog lacks its original Zing, without H.

  14. anonymous says:

Yes, congratulations Heraldo and Happy New Year. Although living in Del Norte County, the Herald is a great source of news and information with a few rants tossed in. Nothing like it north of the Klamath, or as Hank has noted, a “hellhole, with landscape.”

  15. Joel Mielke says:

Happy new year! Thanks to our host, Heraldo, and I’d especially like to thank High Finance. I may argue with him, but I sincerely appreciate his voice in the mix here.

  16. Anonymous says:

Typical Plain Jane – dismissing evidence that disagrees with her worldview as “BS”, while using that reputable, nonpartisan site (HA!) the DailyKos to bolster her pov.

You’re a rabid idealogue, Jane…as also evidenced by your serial postings here.

  17. Plain Jane says:

Typical anonymous. Posts an unsupported claim which originated from a right wing source and when a link is posted from Kos using a variety of sources which refute the entire premise, he complains about the source and launches a personal attack. I’d use Anonymous if I was that stupid and hypocritical too.

  18. Joel Mielke says:

“900K page views could easily be accomplished with 100 regular readers or fewer.”

“Easily”? That would require about 25 separate “page views” per day for those ambitious 100 regular readers.

Three thousand dedicated readers could visit every single day of the year though, and only have to achieve one page view each to achieve that number.

But how many people look at this blog every day?

  19. Carol says:

Happy New Year – may 2012 be a really great year!

  20. moviedad says:

Look, we’ve only got one year left, so let’s get on with already.

  21. moviedad says:

Should be an “it” in there….”..let’s get on with ‘it’ already.”
Anyway, you know what I mean; less than a year to go, make it count.

  22. Thorstein Veblen says:

I have hope for 2012 and beyond.

  23. High Finance says:

Thanks Joel. More lefties should be appreciative of my posts here. They are getting for free, advice that would normally cost them thousands of dollars.

Now, if only they would listen……

  24. Joel Mielke says:

And the right never listens to me, HiFi. My advice would save us trillions.

  25. anonymous says:

HiFi’s opinion of his own advice: “They are getting for free, advice that would normally cost them thousands of dollars.”

Translation: Taking HiFi’s advice will cost you.

This financial “expert” did not think the real estate bubble would burst!

HiFi has no idea how stupid most of his views and comments are. He should be in the Republican race for president, with all the other clowns.

  26. foxstudio says:

Well, let’s see, I post twice as many images and my second largest source of visits after the USA is Mongolia. The Herald is on my list of where my traffic comes from. Thanks! The WordPress stat report is definitely a cool thing to find in one’s inbox. Bananas all around for the helper monkeys!

  27. Heraldo says:

    Cool, foxstudio!

  28. High Finance says:

Nobody wants or needs your advice 5.22pm.

People pay big bucks for mine.

Do you ever wonder why or do you choose to remain stupid ?

  29. anon says:

So amusing that HiFi is 1 of the most frequent posters. Just can’t stay away no matter how much he complains about the subject matter, the leftist slant, the IQ of other commenters & his own importance. Says a lot about the person behind the moniker. None of it good.

  30. High Finance says:

It just appears that I am the third most frequent poster.

Those statistics don’t show the 14,000 posts by “anonymouses” like you.

That says a lot about you, none of it good. Liar.

  31. Anonymous says:

I think it speaks well for Hi Finance that he/she continues to fight and state his/her opinion, in the face of opposition. What would we be here without anyone disagreeing?

  32. skippy says:

    Ditto.

  33. Heraldo says:

HiFi didn’t get credit for his anonymous comments either.

  34. Dung Beetle says:

Heraldo’s whopping stats drive some bugs crazy!

got your goat but good!! HA !

Hey Big Bucks Guy, tell me again how the bubble never bursts…

  37. High Finance says:

You are one sad little puppy.

  38. RefFan says:

Anon, how about starting your own blog that just spews crap at others while discussing nothing important. I think it wld be a hit!!
