  5. Get rid of Rush
    March 6, 2012 at 11:11 am

Please sign the petition to sponsors of Rush’s debased radio show. Dozens have pulled their advertising after Rush called Ms. Fluke, a law student who testified to Congress last week, a slut and prostitute because she thinks health insurance should cover birth control.

Rush said women who take birth control should post videos of themselves having sex.

Let’s get rid of the plague on our society that is Rush Limbaugh.

Liberals didn’t have a problem when left wing wacko Ed Schultz calling Laura Ingraham a slut.
I wonder if Obama called her. I’m guessing not.

  11. March 6, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Of course they did. Ed Schultz was way out of line and exposed the misogyny women face on both sides of the political isle.

Rush took it to another level, wallowed around in his ignorance and hatred of women for days on end and in doing so gives us the benefit of seeing what spineless turds the Republicans have to choose from on the Republican ticket because none of their candidates will condemn his vile comments.

  12. Plain Jane
    March 6, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Limbaugh is selling what his customers (listeners) want. Even though he has sort of apologized because his sponsors and stations are dropping him like the nasty piece of garbage he is, his customers (and other right wing pundits) are still defending him and the vile, irrational attack on Ms. Fluke and women in general because Rush is just a mirror of their own beliefs. His show is to news what professional wrestling is to boxing, but his believers enrich him to the tune of about a million a week. A much better gig than professional wrestling.

There is no equivalence between Schultz calling another famous person a “talk slut” because she lies for pay and Limbaugh calling a private person a “slut” and a “prostitute” because she wants her insurance to pay for contraception and further that she should have to post videos of herself having sex. In Schultz’ case it was just a poor choice of words in attacking a dishonest pundit. In Limbaugh’s case it was an irrational and misogynistic attack on women who use contraceptives (married or single) and on Ms. Fluke personally. The level of intellectual deceit required to spin wanting insurance companies to pay for contraception into prostitution paid for by the taxpayers is sickening. That there are people so bigoted and ignorant that they buy that spin is scary.

    some Rush history:

“Apparently on Planet Wingnut, the man who compared feminists to Nazis, who called Chelsea Clinton “the White House dog,” who told an African-American caller to “take the bone out of your nose,” who promoted a song titled, “Barack the Magic Negro,” called the president a “Halfrican American,” said he and the First Lady weren’t “decent Americans,” compared both President Obama and President Clinton to Hitler, labeled veterans who opposed the Iraq War “phony soldiers,” dismissed Danica Patrick as a “woman driver,” and suggested that all homosexuals are pedophiles ”

HiFi and other Dittoheads, a wee lesson for ya:

Although sometimes used as a reference to the female genitalia, the word twat is more often used in various other ways:
    * As a derogatory insult, a pejorative meaning a fool, a stronger alternative to the word twit – ‘He can be a complete twat’ (often used in the UK)[5]
    * To hit something (or someone) hard or violently – ‘Let’s get out there and twat it!’[6]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twat

Compare with the slander from Rush’s mouth:

“So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.”

He also called Fluke a “slut” and a prostitute after she argued that birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions.”

He said women who want insurance to cover contraceptives are asking him and everyone else to pay them for having sex.

What’s it called when insurance pays for Viagra?

    Anonymous 7.32pm put it correctly.

Rush was trying to make a valid and important point. Society shouldn’t be paying for that woman’s “fun”.

My only distress is that Rush put it in a crude way that allows the left to attack his wording instead of trying to defend an indefensible position. Health insurance shouldn’t be used for lifestyle choices whether it is birth control or viagra.

  33. March 7, 2012 at 7:01 am

Society shouldn’t be paying for that woman’s “fun”.

You are a sick fuck, HiFi. Fluke’s testimony was about women’s health care, not her own “fun.” Rush attacked her for something she didn’t say.

Rush uses Viagra. Where is the outcry from the right?

  34. Anonymous
    March 7, 2012 at 7:19 am

The debate is not about women’s health. It is about the limits of government. Should the federal government be dictating choices that are a matter of conscience for many? The debate does not center on a right for women to have access just how it is paid for.

  35. Plain Jane

Sorry 7:19, you got it wrong too. Not allowing employers or churches to dictate what coverage their employees receive is hardly dictating choices. Contraceptive coverage is minuscule compared to the price of even a simple pregnancy and delivery so saves money for the employer and the insurance company.

    1. Should society be expected to pay for a man’s fun by paying for his Viagra?

    2. Should society be expected to pay for prenatal care and delivery of babies?

And FYI, “society” does not pay. Insurance companies pay and they get the money from the few who can afford to buy insurance coverage. Which is a fraction of our society.

Poor Just Watchin can’t understand why this is such a blatant double standard. While he excuses Rush’s use of Viagra because there might be “broads” around, he calls Fluke a “tramp” for taking birth control without being married. He also fails to grasp that most people don’t care how much sex married or unmarried people are having. It’s one of those privacy issues that is none of his or my business. For a pig like Rush to judge and criticize ANYONE for their sexuality is the most disgusting sort of hypocrisy. But men who call women “broads” can’t be expected to understand the issue from a sane point of view.

The point he was trying to make was not only invalid, Fluke wasn’t asking taxpayers to pay for her prescriptions, it was a vile smear of women and you are STILL defending him. As has been stated here repeatedly, Fluke’s testimony was about the myriad reasons women take birth control pills, many of which have nothing to do with contraception. The reasons a doctor prescribes any medication is a private matter, whether it is for a virgin to treat acne or who has heavy periods to prevent anemia, a sexually active woman who doesn’t want to get pregnant or a fat pig of a man who can’t get an erection. There are many indications for birth control pills unrelated to preventing pregnancy but only one reason for a man to take Viagra. A man who denigrates a woman as a prostitute, slut, claims there are men lining up around the block to have sex with her and believes he has the right to see sex videos of her because she wants her insurance company to pay for her birth control is indefensible. However, I’m thrilled that right wing men have jumped to Rush’s defense because it demonstrates to all women, and the men who love them, how backward, hypocritical and controlling right wing men really are.

HiFi, some facts for you –

Viagra IS covered by insurance. Will you and Rush launch a slanderous campaign against the men who take advantage? Of course not.

Contraceptives are used for health reasons not related to birth control and for birth control.

Men want birth control too. In the age of DNA testing, you can’t walk away any more. You think men want to make all those support payments for the offspring of their “fun”?

Married and unmarried men and women engage in sex.

Even married couples want to plan births.

Planned births lead to fewer abortions, less welfare and healthier families.

No intelligent, conservative person would oppose universally available birth control.

Your mind is trapped in the prison of Dittoland. Poor you.

  74. Plain Jane
    March 7, 2012 at 8:25 pm

OMFG, Heraldo! It’s sickening that there are enough ignorant people who believe this pig’s easily demonstrated logical fallacies and outright lies to keep him on the air. Does he usually obsess and repeat, repeat, repeat his lies like this on other issues? It seems like an effective brainwashing technique but it’s astonishing that people would volunteer for it.

1, Fluke never at any time said she wanted to be paid to have sex or said how much sex she has or wants to have. She talked about the cost of birth control being unaffordable for college students, including married college students and those who need birth control pills for serious medical conditions.

    http://current.com/community/93690301_sandra-flukes-testimony-and-transcript.htm

    2. The cost of birth control pills is the same if you have no sex or if you have sex 10 times a day. You have to take them every day, not just on days when you have sex. Is there an adult in the country who doesn’t know this? Rush seems to have confused birth control pills with Viagra.
    3. Viagra has been covered by insurance plans for prescriptions since about 2 weeks after FDA approval without a word of complaint from churches, Rush or the GOP. The majority of men who use Viagra aren’t trying to procreate just sex for fun. Viagra costs about $10 a pill and even Medicare covers it.

It was all pretty repulsive, but even among all that sewage, the turds that really stood out the most (to me) were that she “had them lined up around the block” and then of course the question “who paid for your condoms in the sixth grade?”

Rush is spewing the sewage his listeners want to hear, Mitch. He is selling them hate and they love it. His advertisers are caving to the outrage of people who wouldn’t listen to Rush on a bet. His advertisers don’t care what sort of garbage he spews so long as it doesn’t cost them too many customers. He claims now that some of these (unnamed) advertisers are begging him to take them back, and I read this morning he gained a few new ones. One of them is a dating site for cheaters and another a site for “sugar daddy – mama” connections. Don’t they seem like naturals for his show?

  80. Mitch

    PJ,

You’re probably right that the advertisers are caving to outrage from outside the shitstain’s audience. (Excellent word choice, Percy.) I’ve corrected my optimism that the audience had a limit to what it would swallow.

Did anyone read Megan Hansen’s Times-Standard article about CalFresh this morning?

Health and Human Services has, according to the article, 134 eligibility workers and they are just overwhelmed. We have 7,600 families now on CalFresh and the estimate is another 10,000 families are eligible. So what does DHHS do for all those families needing food? It buys outsourced computer services. Seriously.

134 eligibility workers probably cost around $5 to $10 million per year. I wonder how much is spent on actual food, as compared with determining eligibility. I wonder how many DHHS “analyst” hours were spent in meetings discussing which outsourcing company to go to, and what color the wallpaper should be in the new office.

I wish a newspaper would tell us (after investigating on its own) what percentage of DHHS budget goes to administrative overhead and what percentage goes to food for needy people.

Now a days, they have new conterceptives that will last 3-6 mos & longer, no need to take the pill everyday. My insurance always covered much of the cost. I have always loved listening to Rush and I always will. Too many ppl are too sensitive and need to not make a big issue out of the things he says. It’s all for ratings!! Look at the crap they put on tv now, more ppl shld be gripping about that then one guy on the radio.

Relfan is probably a typical Rush fan. He loves the hate and thinks Rush’s victims shouldn’t be so sensitive to it. His knowledge of women’s health issues is no better than Rush’s since he also doesn’t seem to be aware of the millions of women take birth control pills for reason other than contraception. Ignorant and still defending the indefensible.

134 eligibility workers for 7600 families which is 56 families for each worker and they are “overwhelmed?”

Thats just an average class size in public school these days.

  85. Mitch
    March 8, 2012 at 8:53 am

    Della Rio,

You’re ignoring their real jobs: denying eligibility, or making it a sufficiently difficult, inefficient, and unpleasant experience that people give up. Why do you think the County supports the director of the agency?

  86. Della Rio
    March 8, 2012 at 9:10 am

    Hello Mitch,

I am pretty much with you, Crandall is incopetent and probably corrupt, is certainly an empire builder.

I am not bagging on the employees, you are most likely right most of their time must be taken up in useless meetings because if an eligibility worker sees a client one hour a month 56 clients means 13 to 14 hours a week. So it is hard to see how they can me overwhelmed. Must be poor management.

  87. Mitch
    March 8, 2012 at 9:36 am

I think most low level employees at DHHS are trying their best, and I think the closer you get to client contact, the more interest there is in actually being of use.

The management of the agency? That trillium picture is really pretty.

Actually, the 1960’s pill was developed by a male Catholic, and designed to mimic a typical cycle, i.e., 28 days or so, under the unfounded hope in reasonableness that it would appear more natural and therefore more acceptable to the church. Could have been set up for six months, a year, etc. Ironic. And just goes to show the perversion that happens when science caters to the popes, mullahs, ayatollahs, and televangelists. I wonder what contraception would look like had it been developed by a non-Catholic woman?

The majority of the staff I have encountered at DHHS Public Health are genuine, hard working and very busy.

I have also encountered some of the laziest most unreliable Lops in upper management at other departments of HHS (yes you CL).

He has played into and promotes people’s worst tendencies – hate, blame and intolerance. How does this encourage cooperation and working together?

As noted by robash, he has inordinate power over our elected officials, who fear going against him. Why should an unelected radio personality have so much influence on our government? How can government be fixed when politicians refuse to work together because they don’t want to piss off Rush?

The result is that Rush has become a money loser for his distributors. The market has spoken and many conservative talk shows are feeling the heat. So are the Republican candidates who were afraid to defend his victims. Women are the majority in this country, Rush is making them act like it.

According to listeners of Limbaugh’s flagship station, WABC, most of the advertising time during the breaks on his show over the last few days have been filled with unpaid public service announcements. Radio-Info.com reports that Premiere Networks, which syndicates the Rush Limbaugh show, told its affiliate radio stations that they are suspending national advertising for two weeks. Rush Limbaugh is normally provided to affiliates in exchange for running several minutes of national advertisements provided by Premiere each hour. These ads are called “barter spots.” These spots are how Premiere makes its money off of Rush Limbaugh and other shows it syndicates.

But without explanation, Premiere has suspended these national advertisements for two weeks. Radio-Info.com calls the move “unusual.”

Preventing someone from speaking is suppression of free speech. Convincing advertisers or the public that it’s not in their interest to pay and associate themselves with someone who says things you consider repulsive is also free speech.

“Freedom of speech” does not mean speech free of consequences. It means that the government cannot stop you from speaking unless your speech is an invitation to violence.

If you make a jackass of yourself, there are consequences. Want to use racial epithets? Spout away! Want to insult the President? Feel free! Just don’t expect people to keep paying you for it once they realize you’ve become a liability.

I think Rush Limbaugh should be free to make even more of a jackass of himself than he already has. I don’t think I’ll buy anything from his sponsors. I hope a lot of people feel that way as well.

If that means his speech costs him money, great! If he’s dedicated to his opinions he’ll continue to voice them even when nobody is paying him to do so, and nobody in America is entitled to stop him.

Funny when the same people who are always warning about the need to guard against an entitlement mentality, and lecturing everyone else about the importance of personal responsibility, have no problem taking exactly the opposite position when they feel like it.
