His show is to news what professional wrestling is to boxing, but his believers enrich him to the tune of about a million a week. A much better gig than professional wrestling.
There is no equivalence between Schultz calling another famous person a “talk slut” because she lies for pay and Limbaugh calling a private person a “slut” and a “prostitute” because she wants her insurance to pay for contraception and further that she should have to post videos of herself having sex. In Schultz’ case it was just a poor choice of words in attacking a dishonest pundit. In Limbaugh’s case it was an irrational and misogynistic attack on women who use contraceptives (married or single) and on Ms. Fluke personally. The level of intellectual deceit required to spin wanting insurance companies to pay for contraception into prostitution paid for by the taxpayers is sickening. That there are people so bigoted and ignorant that they buy that spin is scary.

The point he was trying to make was not only invalid, Fluke wasn’t asking taxpayers to pay for her prescriptions, it was a vile smear of women and you are STILL defending him. As has been stated here repeatedly, Fluke’s testimony was about the myriad reasons women take birth control pills, many of which have nothing to do with contraception. The reasons a doctor prescribes any medication is a private matter, whether it is for a virgin to treat acne or who has heavy periods to prevent anemia, a sexually active woman who doesn’t want to get pregnant or a fat pig of a man who can’t get an erection. There are many indications for birth control pills unrelated to preventing pregnancy but only one reason for a man to take Viagra. A man who denigrates a woman as a prostitute, slut, claims there are men lining up around the block to have sex with her and believes he has the right to see sex videos of her because she wants her insurance company to pay for her birth control is indefensible. However, I’m thrilled that right wing men have jumped to Rush’s defense because it demonstrates to all women, and the men who love them, how backward, hypocritical and controlling right wing men really are.

2. The cost of birth control pills is the same if you have no sex or if you have sex 10 times a day. You have to take them every day, not just on days when you have sex. Is there an adult in the country who doesn’t know this? Rush seems to have confused birth control pills with Viagra.
3. Viagra has been covered by insurance plans for prescriptions since about 2 weeks after FDA approval without a word of complaint from churches, Rush or the GOP. The majority of men who use Viagra aren’t trying to procreate just sex for fun. Viagra costs about $10 a pill and even Medicare covers it.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with whether the advertisers care about what he says; they’ve just decided that, finally, enough of his audience is fed up that he’s no longer a good buy. That’s good news.

Did anyone read Megan Hansen’s Times-Standard article about CalFresh this morning?
Health and Human Services has, according to the article, 134 eligibility workers and they are just overwhelmed. We have 7,600 families now on CalFresh and the estimate is another 10,000 families are eligible. So what does DHHS do for all those families needing food? It buys outsourced computer services. Seriously.
134 eligibility workers probably cost around $5 to $10 million per year. I wonder how much is spent on actual food, as compared with determining eligibility. I wonder how many DHHS “analyst” hours were spent in meetings discussing which outsourcing company to go to, and what color the wallpaper should be in the new office.
I wish a newspaper would tell us (after investigating on its own) what percentage of DHHS budget goes to administrative overhead and what percentage goes to food for needy people.
Now a days, they have new conterceptives that will last 3-6 mos & longer, no need to take the pill everyday. My insurance always covered much of the cost. I have always loved listening to Rush and I always will. Too many ppl are too sensitive and need to not make a big issue out of the things he says. It’s all for ratings!! I am not bagging on the employees, you are most likely right most of their time must be taken up in useless meetings because if an eligibility worker sees a client one hour a month 56 clients means 13 to 14 hours a week. So it is hard to see how they can me overwhelmed. Must be poor management.
I think most low level employees at DHHS are trying their best, and I think the closer you get to client contact, the more interest there is in actually being of use.
The management of the agency? That trillium picture is really pretty.
Actually, the 1960′s pill was developed by a male Catholic, and designed to mimic a typical cycle, i.e., 28 days or so, under the unfounded hope in reasonableness that it would appear more natural and therefore more acceptable to the church. He has promulgated blatant lies in place of thoughtful analysis. His lies are believed and repeated by his Dittoheads, who as the name implies, do not engage in independent thinking. Without intelligent, unbiased discussions, how will anything get fixed?
He has played into and promotes people’s worst tendencies – hate, blame and intolerance. How does this encourage cooperation and working together?

The result is that Rush has become a money loser for his distributors. The market has spoken and many conservative talk shows are feeling the heat. So are the Republican candidates who were afraid to defend his victims. Women are the majority in this country, Rush is making them act like it.

According to listeners of Limbaugh’s flagship station, WABC, most of the advertising time during the breaks on his show over the last few days have been filled with unpaid public service announcements. But I’m sure that has nothing to do with all the local and national advertisers fleeing from his hate-filled spew-fest…
Radio-Info.com reports that Premiere Networks, which syndicates the Rush Limbaugh show, told its affiliate radio stations that they are suspending national advertising for two weeks. Rush Limbaugh is normally provided to affiliates in exchange for running several minutes of national advertisements provided by Premiere each hour. These ads are called “barter spots.” These spots are how Premiere makes its money off of Rush Limbaugh and other shows it syndicates.
But without explanation, Premiere has suspended these national advertisements for two weeks. Radio-Info.com calls the move “unusual.”

Preventing someone from speaking is suppression of free speech. Convincing advertisers or the public that it’s not in their interest to pay and associate themselves with someone who says things you consider repulsive is also free speech.
“Freedom of speech” does not mean speech free of consequences. It means that the government cannot stop you from speaking unless your speech is an invitation to violence.
If you make a jackass of yourself, there are consequences. Want to use racial epithets? Spout away! Want to insult the President? Feel free! Just don’t expect people to keep paying you for it once they realize you’ve become a liability.
I think Rush Limbaugh should be free to make even more of a jackass of himself than he already has. I don’t think I’ll buy anything from his sponsors. I hope a lot of people feel that way as well.
If that means his speech costs him money, great! If he’s dedicated to his opinions he’ll continue to voice them even when nobody is paying him to do so, and nobody in America is entitled to stop him.

Seems like Rush’s defenders are taking the position that Rush is entitled to his advertising dollars, and that he certainly should not be held personally responsible for his actions.
Funny when the same people who are always warning about the need to guard against an entitlement mentality, and lecturing everyone else about the importance of personal responsibility, have no problem taking exactly the opposite position when they feel like it.
