Security National “redomiciling,” laying off 11 in Eureka
It’s at the North Coast Journal, the Lost Coast Outpost, and will probably be in tomorrow’s T-S.
Arkley!

No longer a local company? Just one with local influence?
looks like the new tax laws and health insurance are too expensive for the Bank. You can expect to see these layoffs all across the nation as owners and managers find the cost of employees benefits too expensive. You have to remember in California the wage payed to a worker is about half of the employer expense. Now it will be over 60%. So a teller making $11/hour is costing the employer $24/hour.
So instead of having the governments sticky fingers in your pay check. Would it not be better to earn $20/ hour and buy your own insurance and all the other BS?
This is just the beginning. Wait till all the new Facebook millionaires establish residence in other tax friendly states before they cash out.
When you have a business that operates in fifty states, it is reasonable to assume that you will select where you are headquartered based on tax laws. Clearly California is driving people and businesses away.
I’m curious…..anyone know how many people Arkley employs in Humboldt? Is there any speculation that this is the beginning of a complete pull out? Given all of the “we hate Arkley” sentiment I’ve witnessed on this blog in the past, I’ve always been surprised that he hasn’t picked up and moved his money long ago.
The left wing haters will finally have their wish, Robin Arkley will leave. Eureka will sorely miss the 140 good jobs he provides and the charitable largess he always gave.
It would be a fresh new start. Maybe some of the suck-ups will follow.
Security National even issued a press release during the day yesterday. Is it really the case that the T-S has no story on the layoffs in today’s issue, or is it just not appearing online?
Mitch: I did not see this story in today’s print edition.
It was given 3 paragraphs in the first section of the print edition.
Corporation announces 16 layoffs, 11 in Eureka
The Times-Standard
Created: 01/03/2013 01:54:17 AM PST
SN Servicing Corporation, a member of the Security National family of companies owned by local businessman Rob Arkley, announced Wednesday that it has reduced its workforce by 16 positions, including 11 employees in its Eureka headquarters.
The corporation’s press release cited investment in technology and changes in the U.S. mortgage industry — which the release said required fewer staff to service — as motivating the cuts.
Chief Operating Officer Joe DeDominicis said in the release that the corporation would need to add additional employees as its portfolio of government-backed
A couple words left off:
“Chief Operating Officer Joe DeDominicis said in the release that the corporation would need to add additional employees as its portfolio of government-backed mortages grew.”
Thanks.
Does this mean no more funding for local sleezy polictical campaigns?
No. Salzman and the HCDCC will continue with all the sleezy PC’s.
and no more jobs! when you liberal slowthinkers realise the tax payers, PAY your welfare, it will be too late to fix. By welfare I mean anyone who works for the government, or gets a gov check not to work. That money came form tax payers. No tax payers no paycheck. tits up!
Man, all that corporate “public relations” money sure wasn’t wasted on you guys.
Well then MD, where will this tax revenue come form when more are taking than giving?
I got the sense that SN was being chastised for dealing in “government backed mortages”. Am I wrong?
Good point “Pon-Z” It’s time for the Aristocracy of the Corporate Welfare State, to start paying the same percentage in Tax that the rest of us have to pay. The slightest increase in the slave wages paid by these tax-dodging crooks, is always blamed for inflation. Meanwhile the obscene profits are sacrosanct.
What kind of person constantly sticks-up for the bosses and owners against their own coworkers and neighbors? You’re like the “Vichy” Nazi collaborators. Or like the Dutch collaborators selling out their neighbors. I can totally see why you guy’s hide your identity.
welfare–anyone who works for the government ?? Native son–Arkley has given as well as taken from the area of his origin–
You Social Security/welfare/Arcata types and homeless bums will rejoice in Arkley leaving the area.
The rest of us working stiffs will mourn his loss. He employs a lot of highly paid people downtown and those employees help support other businesses in town. People who care about Eureka realize all the good things he has done for our town like the big improvements on Fourth & Fifth streets, the boardwalk, St Bernards School and on and on and on.
I wonder what a Democrat with $2 Billion might have done. . .

You’ve been watching too many bad movies.
Oh, finally a HH blog entry regarding something local, not washington dc or for goodness sake the vatican! This is no longer a valuable local blog. It’s gone astray. I sure as heck wouldn’t go to the HH for national and international news. Why don’t you HH blogsters (looks like that term doesn’t include “heraldo” any longer) stick to the home news and leave the big time stuff to the big timers?
Patty: Yes the Herald is different now, but having articles on national and international subjects allows posters to weigh in on them with a Humboldt County perspective. I like the diversity of articles that may or may not directly affect residents of the North Coast. But at least it provides readers with what is going on in the outside world and how Humboldt County could be affected (or not).
Yes, because we don’t have the Internet to know what’s going on outside of humboldt.
Patty,
Your comment leaves me bewildered.
If you want local items, put them up at quick notes and if Eric or I notice them we’ll put them on the front page.
No, Heraldo doesn’t seem to be around, and he/she/they were the one/s who had her/his/their finger on the local pulse. I certainly don’t, nor do I pretend to. So I put up what I find interesting. If you don’t find it interesting, that’s fine, but without people feeding information, I’m certainly not magically going to have local stuff to post.
What, you expect something other than prog crap on this blog. Not going to happen.. Mitch wants credit without work. One of the sins.
This is not good, people losing their jobs. I hope the Arkley’s don’t leave this town. While I don’t want to see a mall on the Balloon Track, you have to admit they have made a huge effort and actually succeeded in making this town a more appealing and pleasant place to live and visit. Wish more people with some money would follow suit and improve this city.
It’s important for you to know there is no proposal for any “mall on the Balloon Track”.
Another example of people putting “facts” out that are untrue. It’s the reason that what is said on here by some people is ignored, even laughed at. http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=207647
Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, Rob. What am I thinking?: Yeah, go ahead, do that. It would be fun to watch.
I am sorry for the folks getting laid off. Hope they find something else soon. And working for a non-bully, ideally.
Let me guess, you don’t work for a living here do you?
It’s generally bad form to talk about your posts in the third person.
I’m beginning to think that you’re BJ hiding behind an “anonymous” pseudonym. Either way, you’re hiding. Really…… I think your mother would be more than happy to help you, since it keeps you occupied and out of her hair.
Arkleys = toxic. That said, I’m sorry for the people who have lost their jobs. Just saying they may be better off in the end, no longer being associated.
Spoken like somebody who doesn’t work for a living and couldn’t give a flying fart for those of us who have too.
Actually, Arkleys = toxic sounds like someone who knows the Arkleys. Not being associated IS better in the end.
No, #39 sounds like just another left wing moonbat who hates anyone who is conservative.
#42 I respectfully disagree. Do you know these people personally? The Arkleys? Having been associated, I can testify to #39 being correct. And, for the record, politics have nothing to do with my experience.
