Garr Nielsen named new EPD Chief

A Captain with the Multnomah County (OR) Sheriff’s Office has been unanimously chosen to head the Eureka Police Department.

An article penned by Nielsen for Police Chief Magazine indicates similar values with some in this community who would like police officers to receive a college education before getting a gun and badge.

Eureka City Councilman Larry Glass: Nielsen is a “level headed, well educated, thoughtful person.”

From what I have heard this guy is a lucky find.

So that also means he does NOT share similar values with others.
You condescension comes through Heraldo, intentional or not. The really good news is you have a new white male to hate.

Let the loonies begin. I predict the “hate all cops” brigade will be digging like gophers into his background – I hope he hasn’t shot somebody in his career – that’s all they’ll need to find out. And as an aside, aren’t we going on a year and still no Cherie Moore decision from the DA?

I wish the new EPD chief well with his new post.

No condescension here, 6:59. Read the article Nielsen wrote.

College degrees in criminology (like Nielsen has) or psychology should be required for all cops at every level of service. Let the meatheads who can’t pass the grade stick to private security guard work, we don’t need gun-happy subintelligents roaming our streets under the guise of public service.

Note for the new chief…don’t sell your Oregon house because when you learn how truly screwed up the local cop haters are, you will head back home knowing that planet humboldt is further away than the former planet Pluto

While we’re at it, let’s require PHD’s for our garbage men (and women.) Just think how much cleaner Old Town would be.

    Meet the new boos.
    Same as the old boss.

Do you really expect an improvement Heraldo?

A cop is a cop is a cop and I’ve yet to meet one that I liked.

I am glad there will be a highly educated chief. Its a good thing. If you dont go to college youre really going to be ending your career around 50 because its such a physical job.

Heraldo, one thing to point out is that Federal law enforcement jobs require a college education. But heres the thing – The GS pay scale system thats used in the Fed. Govt. has fallen way behind the times especially since 2000. Many local governments, especially when you include overtime, pay well over what Federal Agents get. Remember its very rare for a fed. agent to get overtime. It would be very easy for municipalities to attract college grads because they are already paying more than the feds! There is no reason to settle for less.

Heraldo, FBI agents have always been required to have bachelor degrees yet you are a fierce critic of their tactics.

  13. Heraldo
    March 16, 2007 at 5:04 pm

You’re right, 4:53. A bachelors degree does not insulate one from being corrupt or dangerous. Both FBI agents and police officers can fall into these categories.

That said, there does appear to be a correlation between cops who lack that education and increased complaints of excessive force and other problems.

But there are plenty of scum sucking tools with degrees.

Your rage and hate come through Heraldo. Are you concious of it?

  15. Heraldo
    March 16, 2007 at 6:56 pm

So I take it you have a degree?

I think the new police chief will expect high ethical standards from his police force at EPD. The agency he comes from certainly did. Police officers should exercise their power with discretion and empathy, without prejudice, and with integrity. A knowledge of psychology and law should be required of all police officers everywhere. Why aren’t all police agencies hiring standards and requirements this high? I think if you pay more for quality you save in the long run.

The ugly comments on this string are coming from people who do not meet the minimum intelligence requirements for police work. Nor do they have the empathy one would require in a dog catcher.

    They are rude and stupid.

It’s not just Heraldo’s rage and hate that one senses, it’s also his condescension toward those who either oppose or dare question him. In other words, he is typical of the worst kind of liberal, all hypocrite.

You have sharply honed senses, 8:24. You must be very proud of them! But the comments posted by anonymous 08:26 was not Heraldo.

Nope, it was me posting my comment. And I didn’t post until I’d had a stiff drink and a bicycle ride.

Still, I said what I meant.

    Condescend I did, and do.

Would you like to discuss what a great and positive influence Nielsen will be as the new chief of police?

It would seem you are no longer able to handle even one drink, especially a stiff one.

My comment about Heraldo’s rage, hate, condescension and hypocrisy was directed at his smarmy “I take it you have a degree?” Your earlier comment was (and remains) irrelevant.

Keep up the bike riding. It might help hone your senses.

    (How’s that for condescension?)

From that question, “…I take it you have a degree?” you have the opinion that Heraldo “is typical of the worst kind of liberal, all hypocrite.” I can find nothing that backs up your claim of hate and rage coming from Heraldo.

I guess that makes you the hypocrite.

As for your continued attempts at condescension, the fact that you do it from atop a steaming stack of your own bullshit hinders it’s effect. I’ll grade it a c-, and you can practice up for the next time.

He is a weirdo that never talks and will backstab anyone who he sees as a threat. YOU WILL BE SORRY……..
