All warrants served

All 29 warrants in the massive marijuana busts occuring this week in Humboldt County have been served according to FBI spokesman Joseph Schadler.

Federal agents have “obtained control of all locations” targeted by the warrants, he said.

At least one person was taken into custody but that person was not directly involved.

Agents are not here to undermine the will of the voters when it comes to 215, Schadler said. He repeated that agents are “not chasing down pot dispensaries” and that a single group of people are targeted.  KMUD reporter Cynthia Elkins noted that busts took place all over Humboldt County and asked Schadler if they were “all tied together.”

“Absolutely,” he said.

Schadler said Tuesday’s actions were just one step in the investigation.  He said there are “450 some odd folks up here doing the investigation,” but no charges have been filed. That will come “later down the line,” he said.

A local hotel clerk said agents are booked in their rooms thru Friday, according to KMUD.

Maybe the Feds stepped in after Humboldt County Code Enforcement was met with so much local opposition to their Natzi tactics.

It’s a shame that the Feds are here because it is harder to kick them off of our land. Unless of course that idea for the Mattole Freestate(remember the coins?) was expanded and implemented throughout Humboldt County. Maybe the Bear Republic(Nor Cal) will rise and secede from the Union. Now wouldn’t that be awesome!

Time to get your “US OUT OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY” bumperstickers!
    Again…

I wonder who this group of growers is? I wonder if they are associates of (read insurance policy of) Good ole Joshee poo Hedlund’s. Wasn’t his sentencing just postponed for the umpteenth time? Why? Could it be that he is feeding them information on major grows in Humboldt and Mendo, information he gathered in a calculating way over the last five years or so? Hmm didn’t they say the investigation started two years ago? How long has Josh been working for the Feds? It’s going to be real interesting when we learn who it is that the Feds have targeted and how much time (maybe none?) Josh gets in the end.

    I have an interesting question.

If this was a major weed bust, where was the infrastructure to dispose of large quantities of marijuana?

    Where were the large trucks?

    Where were the helicopters?

So far I’ve seen a couple SUV’s and some typical rental cars. No flatbeds or trucks capable of hauling off huge amounts of weed. I haven’t even noticed helicopters.

And why did they need 450 agents, to simultaneously slam 29 warrants down in a single day? Especially considering they had no advantage of surprise thanks to craigslist and Heraldo.

One would think the FBI would have a major disposal issue at hand. Yet, I am not seeing any planning for this. Why?

Once again HERR-aldo, thanks for frenetically blowing the whistle on the FEDS as they tried to do their job by putting away this riff-raff. The fact that you kept a constant posting to their whereabouts as they went about their duty is absolutely disgusting. How many of the FEDS did you and the rest of your sanctimonious vermin bretheren at KMUD put at risk by alerting the pot-scum that they were coming? These people were probably organized crime types or Mexican drug cartel boys(NOT NICE PEOPLE-HAVE BAD HABIT OF BEHEADING FOLKS)-did that ever occur to you? NO. You were more concerned about “protecting the will of the people.” What a crock. On the local news this evening, the FBI spoke about having their cover blown by people on the internet. Bubba might be getting a new cell-mate.

In regards to why there was no infrastructure for disposing of large amounts of weed……

From all the reports and info, this doesn’t look like a pot bust. This is a MONEY bust. FBI, IRS, Post Office. Serving warrants on houses to gather evidence for arrests at a later date. Sounds like this is about Tax Evasion and Fraud. Money laundering and unreported wealth. Racketeering. Moving money around through the mail. “Organized crime.”

The fact that they made the money growing weed seems secondary to the investigation we’ve seen.

    Lesson we can learn?

BEO is on to something. google hedlund and check the articles.
we’ll never know for certain but hedlund’s arm stretches across 4 counties and thousands of acres.
could be he cut a deal to avoid a lengthy stay in prison.
even so, likely his vision was mega commercial which ultimately hurts the small care providing farmer.
let this be a lesson that medicine is meant for smaller production.
    for now.

You are right 11:48, Hedlund was into the mega commercial and is (still) mega greedy. Just think of the legal risk for all involved (including the employees); these huge grows are targets for the Feds. (apparently Josh had a back-up plan: shape shifting into el raton) So any young bucks out there thinking of thinking of going big, don’t! At most go small and don’t get caught up in the greed and madness. And whatever you do avoid Josh Hedlund at any cost.

Look, the BNE and the FEDS are obligated to notify local law enforcement if they plan to shake down a community. It is professional courtesy and demonstrates sound judgement. Something like this doesn’t work, can’t work, and simply isn’t safe without communication and cohesion with county and city depts. at various levels. Someone in the loop obviously leaked the info. several weeks ago. Although Hunky Heraldo has a microphone in his hand, so to speak, just as many other reporters and avid Craigslist voeyers have climbed upon their soap boxes as well to warn and inform the community about the anticipated situation during the past 10 days or so, he’s not Orsen Wells, nor do I believe that he advocates illegal drug trafficing. Every journalist has a hot tip or a meaty story every now and again, and this, seems to be his. So, most of what you hear is true; the search warrants have been served, evidence is being collected with intent to confiscate and absorb under state and federal laws of criminally related forfiture, this is about money, it has strong ties to a deadly black tar heroin distribution ring which will also be busted in the near future and we should all just calm the fuck down and let everyone do their jobs, including Heraldo.

Yes Beowulf, a bit of innuendo to dissapate some of the god damn tension around here ~

And yes, heroin. Humboldt has more heroin related crime and heroin related deaths than any other county with our demographics. Think layoffs of 285 mexican men and women in Arcata wasn’t intended to cause a bit more of a disruption than the average laymen might think. Serious and well defined disruption actually. Those firings likely affected 1000 people or more (including spouses, extended family, children) Many of them hard-working upstanding people, many of them not. Most of those families have though, likely left the area to find work elsewhere. A ripple affect. Take away the workers and the queen is fucked, same theory applies to peddling drugs. Lot’s of heroin, less people to move it. Think about it.

but when people get big, guns are added to the scene and they were not before, more and more people become apart of it and sooner or later some of thoughs people will want to dip there hands in to real drugs.

I’m just saying that we need to use some common sense around here, for pete’s sake. Heraldo has a right to freedom of speech, I have no problem with that, but when he exposes a major FED drug-sweep consisting of over 400 agents, you gotta know they aint goin after 215 patients. It was a cartel bust from the beginning, something big, and Heraldo needs to show some responsibility in allowing the FEDS to remove this menace. Heraldo needs to chill out, along with the rest of the pot-head enviros who have lulled themselves into thinking that Humboldt is it’s own separate country apart from the US.

First off 99% of you medical marijuana people are fucking stupid… you go to that special doctor who can find something wrong with you to give you a damn card to sit on your ass, smoke pot, and get your six hundred dollar check every month. Then you grow, and sell to make up the difference…. great plan, you only have ot work about 4 hours a month for life to get by…. what a life!

As far as this website and that gay ass radio station, i wish that the gov. could impose on your freedom of speech and bust your ass for interfiering with an investigation.

They are busting people for a reason…. people who can get so big with their “business” that guns are their stong arm. people who hire people… people who shoot at people and miss, and accidentally hit a kid on a swing at the park 300 yards behind the original target, or your mother who is knitting watching her soap opera.

I dont live in Humbolt area, but it is NOT another country. It NEVER will be.

Get a real job that you can be proud of, that you can actually go to you kids school on career day and tell the kids what you “really” do for a living.

What I find more annoying it the use of profanity, anger and hostility/threatening language, and shortened text-message style writing (like “stomp U out”). It all serves to communicate the individual’s point though, doesn’t it? It also reveals quite a bit about the writer’s education and personal quirks.

I would also like to add that if the Feds are indeed taking out the rippers, the liars and the thieves…the scum that also happens to grow..then fine by me. This place is beautiful and gets ruined by those that hide behind lies and pretend to be karma positive and “rainbow family” but in reality are child molesters, tweekers, rippers and murderers. THOSE people we DO NOT need at allllll. Take them Feds, take them please. Leave this beautiful country to the rest of us that really are functioning members of society. Let us have our meds but please take out the trash on your way out!

We should demand that our local law enforcement cease ALL cooperation with the federal Department of Homeland Security. We should demand this of the Eureka City Council, the County Supervisors and the Arcata City Council.

The lesson of Nuremburg is this:

It was not just German Nazis who were guilty of crimes against humanity. Also guilty were Germans who simply did nothing in the face of their leaders crimes.

Germans who did nothing to oppose the crimes of the Nazis were complicit.

Now we find ourselves living in a country that is pursuing the same kind of illegal wars and espousing the doctrines of cultural superiority over the rest of the world and is also imposing that fascist control internally (New Orleans, Humboldt, the southern border)

Who gave the federal “police” the rights to set up ROADBLOCKS in our county?

When the rest of the world finally comes here to judge you- What will you say?

    have a peaceful day,

No arrests? They didn’t find anyone home? When the Feds get involved the case (if arrested) goes to Federal Court where the sentences are long – 10 years or so. If arrested by the Sheriff – probation for a couple of years and the money gets taken but maybe not the property. There was a person in Manila that was on their CSD board that got caught by the Feds and I think he got 10 years. Maybe it was tax evasion too.

To answer a previous question, no they didn’t eat at local joints: they had an excellent catering service.

There’s a homegrown cartel in SoHum. Can’t remember the folks but I recall some previous County court cases that were connected with a lot of money and similar last names. Won’t be long before we figure out who it is.

I wonder if the recent deportation had anything to do with the current drug bust. I know that a couple of mexicans with very big names and personalities got sent away recently. Also came back (in hiding) less than a week ago. These fellas are known more for the superwhite mexi-meth AFAIK. I’m betting on the sohum vanilla-face quad riding numbskulls.

Probably won’t budge the market price. The feds have more explicit power in “interstate commerce” thus the pot is probably leaving the area. Not sure where these folks spend their money on soil and quads… but if it’s local than that may dent our local november shopping spree after harvest.

The bill of rights says shit about you having the right to be supported when you don’t produce. It says you have a right to produce without being fucked with, what you advocate is a bunch of demands from others who do produce.

Although I have a number of college degrees and speak several languages I have always had trouble spelling. Probably because I enjoyed the literature part of English classes much more than the grammar part. Also like many humans my brain overrides my ability to type or write. If you look history you will see that a number of people scientists, writers, business people had problems spelling. We’re all likely quite bright and evolved, we wouldn’t be reading and commenting on Heraldo’s blog if any of us were truly idiots ~ no need to inflate our own egos any further listing our credentials or the fine intellect and abilities of our lovely spouses. I think that people mis-spell or make gramatical errors when they are wound up and/or in a hurry. What bugs me about some of the commenting here is that we allow ourselves to become so infuriated by another’s views and/or positon on an issue, that we start talking shit and using derogatory remarks. The word retard (retarded), although still a clinical term, is simply so incredibly offensive to me personally, I’d hope to not see it used here anymore. And, identifying (as one candid commenter continues to do) another’s anal retentive writing or thinking habits and/or accusing them of being ignorant from a few short sentences within a comment they’ve posted is rude and equally ridiculous. Cmon, what’s with all the fucking judgement? Can’t we all just take what we like and leave the rest, agreeing to disagree on occasion? Let’s all just take a few breaths, open up our minds a bit and chill the fuck out. Further outlets for frustration can be found this weekend at the Jambalaya. No one is perfect and no one knows it all except God himself. Our society has become so good at pointing the finger at someone else that they don’t reflect on themselves. We should instead focus on what we can do to help the situation. If the feds are going after the commercial grows and trying to catch the people protecting their patches with shotguns and pitbulls, then more power to’em. If they are targeting people with a 215, then shame on them. People in the national media will learn about Peter Stewart, Cheri Moore, Martin Cotton and other victims of Humboldt law enforcement.

Peter Stewart, burned alive in Hoopa. Cheri Moore shot multiple times by Eureka police, and the senseless beating death of Martin Cotton at the hands of the Eureka Police Department and the Humboldt Sheriffs Department.

The possible cover up of these homicides by local law enforcement. The incompetence or complicity of the coroner Frank Jager, former cop and current candidate for Eureka City Council.

code enforcement task force meeting tomorrow!

the code enforcement task force meets tomorrow (friday, june 27th) at the board of supervisors chambers at the county courthouse in eureka. (does anyone know the time of the meeting, or the agenda, or what time the public comment period starts?)

with all the heavy-handed fed raids in the last few days, its important that we don’t lose sight of this code enforcement issue. we may not have much influence over the feds, but we sure as hell should be able to influence our own county government!

this task force meeting is a great opportunity to tell them what we think about the revelations at the last task force meeting that the county “lost” all the documents pertaining to the formation of the code enforcement unit, due to a “flood” in the county courthouse basement.

and since they were forced to add a “public comment” period to the end of the task force meetings, you can speak to them if you like. but even being another “warm body” there lets them know that we haven’t forgot about this.

and the moratorium on non-consensual code enforcement inspections, using their magical no-probable cause “inspection warrants” ends in a few weeks.

we need to demand that, at the very least, the board of supervisors must extend the moratorium until after the task force has completed their work. they haven’t even got to the bottom of what went wrong yet, much less worked out what should be done in the future!

and we should also express our desire that the county should drop its shameful lawsuit against the yee-haw ranch in trinidad, site of one of the most egregious code raids that took place.

shortly after residents there complained on KMUD about how they were treated by desadier, fulton, and the rest of the code raiders (including having a gun pointed at an unarmed woman with two young children for no good reason) the county decided to file a lawsuit against charles garth, the owner of the property, and even against his tenants – for “conspiracy” to commit “unfair business practices” for the terrible crime of exchanging “substandard rent” for modest accomodations.

this retaliatory lawsuit has already rendered individuals and families homeless, and amounts to adding insult to injury. and if it goes forward, it’s likely to cost the county big bucks for outside counsel (just like the pepper spray case and the tooby lawsuit) because the county counsel has such a clear conflict of interest, as they were one of several agencies that were kinda-sorta supervising the code raiders.

wood ranch and elk ridge have been on the agenda of the task force, but apparently not yee-haw. if they continue to try to dodge the issue tomorrow, then we certainly have the public comment period at the end of the meeting to let them know how we feel about this!

as others have pointed out, if the county clowns can’t even prevent important county documents from being destroyed in a flood in their own basement, they’ve got a lot of nerve telling the rest of us how to live!

    i don’t have the exact time, but it’s something like 10 a.m. – ?

does anyone know the exact time of the meeting, and/or the agenda?

    heraldo?

it’s not on the c.l.m.p. web page – and i’m not criticizing them, they must have their hands full with the invasion by the feds.

but it’s important that we don’t let one level of opression (the feds) prevent us from keeping our eye on the ball with another level of oppression (the county code cops).

so if you can be there tomorrow, then BE THERE!

    P.S.

    heraldo,

i realize this message is kind of “off-topic,” so if you want to post this message on the front page as a “guest opinion,” feel free. or if you’d rather skip my opinions and just post a reminder about tomorrow’s meeting and maybe link to your last post about the “purge”/flood of county documents. if you happen to know the time of the meeting and can add that, that would be even better. i know i’m posting this request pretty last-minute, and i know there’s a whole lot else going on at the moment so i certainly understand if you don’t have time. still it would be a great service if you could at least put a quick reminder about tomorrow’s meeting up on the front page… – thorn
