Crabs on Leno

Crabs-on-LenoAs the nation’s oldest minor league longest operating Summer Collegiate Baseball team readies for kick-off weekend  in Arcata, check out this historic footage of the Humboldt Crabs on Jay Leno.

Wait — is that Humboldt Bay Harbor Commissioner Mike Wilson pouring beer on an innocent man’s head?  Oh, the sportsmanship!

WordPress won’t allow MySpace vidoes to be reposted here so follow the link.

Thanks for the link! That was fun to see!

Oh, and I’m sure that’s not the only time Bohner has told Wilson he’s a dead man!

I think they were in a few bands together. Avenue of the Giants comes to mind. Marching band uniforms and songs about Myers Flat and Bigfoot. Good times.

A great time of the year. Go Crabs go! Nothing like June in Humboldt. Three games this weekend at the Ballpark; fighting off the fog-burn during the day game and freezing during the night game! Take a blanket to cover the wet bleachers. Best nachos around. Play ball!

There is nothing innocent about Steve Bohner.

One nit to pick H, the Crabs are the nation’s longest operating Summer Collegiate Baseball team, they are not semi-pro nor minor league.

It seems like a small distinction, but to the assholes at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis it’s a big deal. These guys are strictly amateurs.

My understanding is that the Crabs are not minor league, they are semi-pro. Less regulations and more fun!

If you can’t make it to the game, you can always catch them live on KGOE.

    “Best nachos around.”

What about the awesome beer, which is shipped only a few miles and is half the price of a crappy beer at a major-league park.

    Thanks for the correction, HumboldtBlue.

But the players paid (albeit a meager wage) therefore making them distinctly not amateur?

If they aren’t semi-pro, someone should update the wikipedia page

I was going to rush in here and disabuse Heraldo and the readers of the blog of the notion that that bearded hooligan is anything remotely resembling innocent. I am glad to note that others have beat me to it.

    Hitch/Cutters reunion tour? what?

See what happens when I talk nice? Everyone tells me I’m wrong.

So this post was really about Heraldo trying to be nice to Mike Wilson then?

    I’ve always liked the slogan:

    Arcata — we’ve got Crabs!

A friend from San Diego said that a lame, mass-market beer at PetCo Park is $14.

With the exception of “kick off”as a metaphor for anything Crabs, I thoroughly enjoyed the Leno moment on this post.

And, if you look quickly, Commissioner Wilson here.
