Gallegos gets no love from SoCal blogger

Blogger Matthew Cunningham, writing for Red Country (“The place for state and local conservative politics”) warns that Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos is “politically unbalanced” and should be tagged and tracked so fellow Republicans can be “for-armed in the future.”

Cunningham lives in Orange County and is clearly new to Humboldt County issues. He tells of Paul’s poor handling of the “PLACO” (sic) case, and claims the DA is drafting a marijuana ordinance “this year” to allow cultivation of 99 plants for medical pot users. Cunningham’s own link notes the ordinance was adopted in 2003.

But Gallegos foes will find plenty to crow about in the piece — even as they decry Southern California influence in local politics.

Umm, Paul is from southern California. Poor job on the MJ thing though.

So this guy doesn’t like Paul for his “future attempts at being a state-wide candidate”.

This article is so poorly written, it forces one to ask: “who will save conservatives from the idiots of TODAY?”

I could sit and here and write a 1500 piece on this SoCal guy I’ve never met–it would probably be just as ineffective, but at least I’d check my references.

If you’re known by your enemies, this is a plus for the DA.

    This DA has no pluses.

Obviously not many conservative smokers out there. I hope they don’t get sick and need a little weed. My dad died of cancer and it sure helped his remaining time with us.

Actually all of the guys points are true. I’d like to hear actual points to rebut him rather than the drivel from Julie and Carol.

    September 10, 2010 at 11:19 am

He didn’t support any of his points with facts, just out of context quotes, and failed to provide even a glimmer of support for his claim that Gallegos has plans to run for AG, which is supposedly why he included Gallegos in this hit piece in the first place.

If the DA was a Republican and had PG’s track record you’d be all over him like ugly on an ape with the usual desciptions of “incompetent” and “corrupt” amongst others. You don’t have to admit it in writing but you’ve got to at least consider that.

  12. Plain Jane
    September 10, 2010 at 11:52 am

The concept of a Republican trying to hold a corporation accountable or prosecuting out-of-control cops is ludicrous.

It is to those totally unable to see things without their political blinders on. I’d respect you more if every once in a while you actually expressed an objective bias-free thought Jane.

Yes, bias free, like Matthew Cunningham, of Red County http://www.redcounty.com/
he and Rose have so much they agree on, staring with no Mosque should be built in America (yes, they do both claim to be strict constructionists and no they do not know either the word hypocrisy nor irony)

You’re absolutely right Joe. Cunningham is a propaganda shill-totally biased. I don’t care for him at all. I don’t care where politically it comes from. And the no Mosque near ground zero crowd are just plain nutjobs that are about as un-american as you can get.

Do the MJ boutiques sell brownies or do you have to smoke the “medicine”? Wouldn’that might be problematic for someone with COPD. If they don’t sell brownies, why not?

Never mind-please do continue with the usual propaganda. God knows the other side does it too.

“And this guy has ambitions to be one of California’s top law enforcement officers”

Where did he get this information? I’ve heard nothing about Gallegos having state-sized aspirations.

  23. September 10, 2010 at 4:04 pm

You’re right in this regard … we don’t need some mook from SoCal to tell us how bad our DA is. We already know.

Fudge, cookies and caramel. Nice and tasty!

But the new dispensaries should show some imagination. They should come out with new types of sweets made with Maryjuana.

    “Daffy Taffy” comes to mind.

It’s incredibly funny, or maybe pathetic, that Paul keeps claiming that violent crime is down in Humboldt County under his watch–despite the clear numbers from the state that indicate the opposite. Apparently the DA and 4th District Supervisor incumbents can just make up and repeat as much shit as they like in hopes that voters are really stupid.

    Desperation is a messy business.

I think it’s pretty clear that when you have to kick in virtually all of your own campaign money and your biggest supporters are pot supply stores, your time is almost over.

Chris Crawford knows all about mooks from SoCal because that’s what he is. A little fish who moved to a tiny pond to magnify his influence over all us small town hicks.

Reactionary nuts reassure voters that “with enemies like this, he must be okay.”

Currently a qualified candidate with a strong record as a prosecutor is running against Gallegos, but she will be hobbled by wing-nut supporters. Please take a fresh look at Jackson.

A qualified candidate such as Jackson is,should be the first person to ask this blogger to remove the post or to clear up the many mistakes written,or at least one would hope some of her most ardent supporters would. That Chris Crawford has no problem what so ever with this guy passing along horridly false info is a travesty, and incredibly sad considering his stature on our community.

  41. September 11, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Thought I would put this out there. The article sources a Eureka Reporter article from 2006 to bolster his argument.

Um, unless one has access to the hard copies of the ER or the database, there is no way this guy could have gotten an article from the ER without a) being up here to do the research himself; b) somebody here forwarded him certain articles; c) he just happened to save articles from 4 years ago.

    Discuss.

Gallegos is a competent DA who verbally and even at times in action gives respect to the concept of equal justice. That makes him dangerous in the eyes of Dick Cheney’s all-fear-all-the-time crew and the Republican “in crowd” in general.

So many idiot right-wing bloggers, so little time….
