2010 in review

[The following post comes from WordPress.com.  This is the first end-of-year round-up ever offered by the host of the Humboldt Herald.  The final results are different from the top 10 based on the number of comments].

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

Healthy blog!

The Blog-Health-o-Meter™ reads Wow.

Crunchy numbers

Featured imageThe Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 1,000,000 times in 2010. If it were an exhibit at The Louvre Museum, it would take 43 days for that many people to see it.

In 2010, there were 479 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 2208 posts. There were 629 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 225mb. That’s about 2 pictures per day.

The busiest day of the year was June 8th. The most popular post that day was 2010 Primary Election night madness.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were northcoastjournal.com, humboldtlib.blogspot.com, kunsoo1024.wordpress.com, watchpaul.blogspot.com, and samoasoftball.blogspot.com.

[The same people who watch Paul and watch Virginia watch the Herald].

Some visitors came searching, mostly for humboldt herald, marijuana, marijuana leaf, and inbred [does this have anything to do with city hall?!].

The Right like to know what the left is up to. To know the opposition, and to try to understand; How you can be so fucked up with crazy, zany, outdated, socialist ideas. Maybe misguided, maybe evil?

That’s right, only your crowd have the really cool ideas like capitalizing ‘Right’ while disdainfully lower-casing ‘left’. I think it even beats the word ‘paykeeper’ in terms of bringing shame down on your opponents. Your comment makes me want to return all the locally bought, made in Humboldt, Christmas gifts I purchased at places like piersons and eureka natural foods and then drive up to Walmart for some super low cost merchandise. Notice how I lower-cased those socialists at the big hammer and enf? Damn, that must smart.

    Regarding the Herald:
Left, Right or indifferent, I think all the questions about anonymity, public slander, libel, citation; are simmering beneath the surface of this Blog’s energy.
I don’t agree that arguing with anyone anonymously is right or fair; but I totally value your right to decide that for yourself.
There is more community discussion on this site in one day, than there is anywhere else. There isn’t any other forum being used. Craigslist is a sick joke.
This blog has made the Times-Standard obsolete. By the time a political story is published in the day’s paper. it has eighty hits here, and it’s old news.
We all talk about what the future holds for journalism and print-media; well here it is happening before our eyes. Blogs are dynamic, while newspapers are always going to be a day late.

So far as I know, the HH has no paid staff.

An online T-S or North Coast Relevance would have a natural advantage over this or any blog, being able to offer information that was gathered and filtered by paid staff members, IN ADDITION TO providing a place for comment.

That the HH has become the go-to place for Humboldt news and information is a comment on the T-S and the Relevance, and on the respect they engender locally.

Ehh, all of us WordPress folks got a WOW rating. However, yours is more legitimate than mine.

    Here’s to a good 2011!

    Congrats to the HH.

    Right on Moviedad and Mitch!

What is the scientific word for when paper, over a long period of time, turns to powder or dust when you move the former pulp particles in any manner(like in the movie “Time Machine”)?

We’ve come a long way living behind the Redwood Curtain. Not too long ago, before cable and internet existed, we had a pitiful library and 3 channels of TV until midnight… left with PTL’s Tammy Faye Baker a crying mess and makeup rolling down her cheeks while Jim shucked and jived the masses.

Thank you, Heraldo, very well done.

“North Coast Relevance ” Never heard of them.

It’s the local weekly that covers what its editor thinks is relevant, and ignores what its editor thinks is not, regardless of whether voters might benefit. Surely you’ve seen it.

I had to check my count after reading this post. Last year I had just under 50,000. (Whine!) It was my lowest readership year. I blame it on moderating the posts. 1,000,000? Whew! That is huge! Don’t always agree, but always check it out!

Wow Richard it’s nice you are trying a hand at telling the truth. It’s pretty easy. Try it again sometime, I think you’re really gonna like it. HH rocks and I check it every day I can.

I think the softball blog just isn’t as controversial, and thus, doesn’t enrage people.

1,000,000 views sounds like a lot until you consider that 698,735 of them were Plain Jane, The Henchman and Anon-Y-Mous.

Yep, that’s right, a million hits in one year.

To all those haters and jealous folks who claim that the Herald is only read by fifteen progressives in Eureka: guess they must have visited it 66,000 times each last year!

    Read it and weep, fellas.

Kinda of like Fox News and MSNBC with Oberman or Maddow.
It just does not resonate unless you post something so off the wall; everyone has to chime in.

Great Job HH. Not orignal; but effective.

Country Mouse, If you take PJ, A Nony Mouse and maybe 8 others posting 20 times a day each, those ten would account for 73,000 posts alone!
