MARK LOVELACE: Chairman

With its two new members now seated, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors did their annual shuffle Tuesday, moving 3rd District Supervisor Mark Lovelace into the chairman’s seat.

Conservatives in Eureka are sure to see it as a sign of the apocalypse.

After Clendenen, Lovelace will be actually know what’s going on, look interested (even when he’s not), and run the meetings smoothly. What more does one need?

OMG! On the south of Eureka The Big Hammer, on the north The Motor Sickle shop. . .Hammer and Sickle!!! And doesn’t Lovelace look just a little like Leon Trotsky? EEEEEEEEEK!!

He should take up surfing. Then he can get away with pretty much anything he wants.

A Tree Hugger with a wooden gabble. I bet that will change.

Yeah- he’ll probably want a Gavel instead of one of those gabbles.

I’m not a big fan of Mark’s politics, but I was impressed by his TS letter to editor congradulating Zanzi for the CCC appointment. Not sure whether its smart politics or sincerity, but it was classy IMO. I hope 2011 brings more of this to the Board and County.

Lovelace, unlike that idiot Clendenon, will at least know what he is doing and act like a grownup.

or you could just call it a gavel and not capitalize it.

    Along the lines of Tapperass,

Good Luck to the reconfigured BOS.

Additionally, hopefully, there will NOW exist less board bravado when it comes to many issues that folks within the General Public Political Sphere Of Influences ARE more knowledgeable about county functions than the BOS (at times) and staff (more times than not)……….. Maybe, Respondet Superior will actually be practiced and staff employees will understand finally how crucial doing their jobs ethically has become in lieu of today’s social circumstances based on so many political ideological manipulations and deceit.

Whew, able to get that out for criticism purposes to start the new year off with a bang!

    Happy New Year revisited.

Moderates need to reach out to progressives and vice versa. I wish Mark well. Also agree with anon10:14 and Steak n Eggs. The letter showed class.

I agree with the last two posts. May we all learn our manners and work together.

What Jeff meant to say just above is, the new Board of Supervisors has a chance to learn more from people who know what’s going on (citizens), and supervise rather than take direction from those who know least, our bunkered staff mandarins.

For a good time, tune into the Planning Commission meeting tomorrow night, where Arcata’s Nip It In The Bud ordinance against pot will be relabeled Humboldt’s Regulatory Ordinance in favor of same, with all the usual, predictable, idiotic results–except that a near-majority of the Planning Commission turns over this month, perhaps to be replaced with people who don’t feel like wasting another ten years doing the same old nonsense.

Is it possible that our county’s principle economic activity will appear one day in our General Plan? Stay tuned.

“Conservatives in Eureka are sure to see it as a sign of the apocalypse.”

    Sigh.

Having seen Mr. Lovelace think, work, and participating in various capacities, the Dear Reader should know he’s a smart, capable, and reasonable fellow. Bringing debate and discussion to the table, he’ll ask questions of import. He reads his memos, does his homework, is planned and prepared, is willing to do more. He works hard in full time responsibilities and attends many meetings outside the normal business hours. Always taking notes, never shirking in his duties and obligations, never exercising complacent moments nor wasting time.

True, he doesn’t follow in lockstep unison employing independent and refreshing thought. Having a different opinion on matters for discussion is a complementary component for working boards and groups.

After observing the Board of Supervisors over 30 years, Mr. Lovelace exercises the unique strengths and qualities of a good Supervisor. Despite the nattering naboobs of negativism, he’ll do just fine as Chair… although admittedly always to someone’s lament.

I think it is amazing that someone would call Clendenen an idiot AND mis-spell his name. Maybe people in glass houses….
