Not to be a killjoy, but isn’t it a touch early to kick off for 2012…maybe not.

Only by about six to eight months.

When you consider the money that will be poured into this race it’s high time to start fund-raising.

  4. May 11, 2011 at 10:25 am

Sad, sad, sad state of affairs when it takes almost 2 years to raise enough money to compete.

Maybe so, but since no one is focused on the race except political junkies, and there is no clue yet who he will be running against, getting people to cough up this early is nearly impossible. Will he raise a few thousand, probably, but collecting serious money, I doubt it.

Clif’s fundraising will be primarily based on who he is up against, though I do expect it to be a blood bath no matter who runs.

If you had focused on early fundraising, Mark Sailors, maybe you could have been elected to the Arcata city council. Instead, you ended up receiving fewer votes than that homeless guy who ran!

Actually, I believe Clendenen has a good many supporters who will be happy to come to an event that includes food and music and a chance to just gab about local politics. The requested donation is modest, and I am guessing the point is not so much to make money (although that would be helpful!) as it is to start getting in gear for what will be undoubtedly be a hard and possibly ugly campaign.
Yeah, the amount of money spent in the 2010 supes campaign was ridiculous. It just goes to show … something … not sure what …. nothing good, though ….

No need for focus on the race to have a little fundraiser.

Also, there are clues as to who will run. I expect to see Estelle Fennell and Johanna Rodoni give it another shot.

    Quite possible.

The only question I have about Johanna running is she’s spent over $200,000 on two failed campaigns. Will her backers stump up once again or look for someone new.

If you follow what was going on, and obviously you do, you would know my business ran into some, lets say, regulatory problems. I had to lay off 6 people and it cut into my personal income GREATLY. I spent the entire campaign focused on saving the business, not raising money. On that note maybe I should start the campaign now and get some funds accumulated early. Thanks for the advise.

This is bloody sad. Clif is a buffoon, a pitifully cautious and non-commital politician. Second rate to the core and definitely not the brightest light on the Xmas tree by far. But- seeing who’s running against him is even sadder.

Clif has been a steady and moderate supervisor. That makes him almost an anomoly in this day and age. We need more like him.

Clif is a voice of sanity, moderation and common sense in the Second. He’s doing what he’s gotta do to get re-elected against the big moneyed interests who are doing whatever it takes to kill the General Plan and maintain their stranglehold on this county.

    Go Clif!

I’m hearing rumors that Zanzi will run.

Have you guys watched the Board of Supervisors meetings? Bright? Nice guy but not what is needed in your area. Everyone is so nice now as a Supervisor that I wonder if anything will actually get done. Someone has to step up to get the budget fixed and there are lots of tough decisions to be made. Layoffs for Sheriffs and there may be lots more to come depending Sacto and those bumbleheads that we seem to keep electing. Evans – whine, whine, I need my car to travel to a wine tasting or some other stupid event.

Evans actually got an award from a group that looks at stupid laws for getting the child seats approved for the “young” up to 12 years old or something like that age if they only weigh ??? for the stupidest law for that year and she got it passed also. I would have to look it up on Google again and laugh again when I read it. Look it up. Does she own a share in the company or companies that make child seats or was this just a really stupid idea she had? We have stupid people elected all the time and then people complain but seem to reelect them again and again. Cliff used to vote with Bonnie but at times could not quite understand how she was going to vote and had to vote yea or nea before she voted and at time got left out as the one vote against or for something. Now guess who he votes with?

Clif Clendenen is a total disaster as a supervisor, and he needs to be voted off. His liberal views in no-way represent the 2nd district. Not even close. The only way he was elected was because Roger Rodoni met an untimely death, otherwise he didn’t have a snow-ball’s chance. If any conservative with decent name recognition runs against Clendenen, he’s going down in flames. Bank on it.

cliffs apple orchard would make fantastic low income housing. Just as my
neighbors property in Redway, full of old apple trees should
be shit upon by mindless central planning automatons.

how do you make god laugh? Tell him what your planning commission is trying to do

On Eric’s blog, he has stated that Supervisor Clendenen’s “top three priorities” from the fundraiser and as outlined in response to a question from one of his supporters where:

    1. Complete the GPU

    2. Save the rivers

    3. Build community within this very complex district

I did a little looking into Eric’s claim that Supervisor Clendenen’s number two priority is to “Save the Rivers”. I found one. Here is what Clendenen said 3 years ago, running for Supervisor:

“I would also want to actively campaign to restore the rivers in the district. The Mattole is challenged, it runs dry in the summer. The Eel is in rough condition, with low flows and the pike minnow in there now. Just in the short window of time that I’ve observed it from being a kid growing up fishing for salmon and steelhead, its really challenged. We could turn that around with some effort and focus on that”

“Especially in the 2nd District, one of the keys is river restoration. All the little towns up and down the Avenue of the Giants used to thrive – the little motels and bait shops and fishing. That’s a key element. Those aren’t going to be the highest paying jobs, but that’s certainly a good augmentation”

Other than that nothing after he was elected and nothing todate. Please name an issue Clendenen has championed to “Save the rivers” since being elected Supervisor. Could you do that for us Eric?
