Supes announce Planning Commish picks

Humboldt County Supervisors today revealed their top candidates to fill outgoing Commissioner Bruce Emad’s seat on the Planning Commission.  The Supes will make the final call at their May 24th meeting.

Below is the list of final candidates and the Supervisors who supported them:

Glenn Ziemer
(Supes. Virginia Bass and Ryan Sundberg, Jimmy Smith)

David Edmonds
(Bass and Sundberg, Smith)

Greg Conners
(Supes. Mark Lovelace, Clif Clendenen, Smith)

Virginia Graziani
(Clendenen, Smith)

Richird Hansis

Ann King Smith

Sungnome Madrone

Following yesterday’s revelation that “bullyinair” Rob Arkley thinks Smith is an “extremist,” Smith was his regular self at the meeting.  As usual he was the perfect gentleman who took time to go down the list of every applicant and speak good words about them. His fellow board members chided that he must know every person in Humboldt County.  He called the task of choosing between the applicants “heartbreaking.”

Arkley is right.  Jimmy must be stopped.

It would require passing off some really big whoppers on an ignorant electorate to get Jimmy tossed out. His job is secure. He’s simply everywhere listening to everyone and everyone likes him.

So it looks like Connors, Ziemer and Edmonds are the “front-runners.” I know who Greg Connors is, but I’m not familiar with Ziemer or Edmonds.

If someone who is familiar with these candidates wants to provide a little bit of info on their history and overall orientation toward the PC and the GPU, I’d be interested in hearing about it.

Dave Edmonds. He is a well balanced centered person. He will listen and ponder and then make a decision. I believe that he is now retired from the phone company but was very involved with community activities. He is calm and basically a nice guy.
I also know Greg Conners and like him on a personal basis. But Dave is a better choice.

Conners would make an excellent planning commissioner, IMO. I don’t know the others personally.

    Thanks, Andrew.

If Andy is for Greg, that’s all I need to know to not support him.

    Well, we’ve got a Bass/Sundberg “cabal”
    And we’ve got a Lovelace/Clendenen “cabal”

Smith is out of it because he’ll support whoever three other Supes want.

So, which “cabal” can flip someone from the other side? I’d guess the ‘weak hands’ most likely to be flipped are Sundberg and Clendenen. Clendenen is up for election next year so he would seems to be the most vulnerable to political pressure from the development community. But I think Clif has more strength of character while Sundberg has a need to gain some political capital. Sundberg would be wise to flip now in exchange for getting future favors for his district(like keeping staffing for the Sheriff substation in McK).

In the end, it will be a unanimous vote, I hope.

If I was selecting an order or hierarchy, I believe I would go with Conners first, then Edmonds, then Graziani, then Ziemer, then Madrone, Hansis, Smith…in my humble opinion. Trust for fairness and support for property rights is tantamount, imo.

tra @5:42 – don’t know about Edmonds, but Ziemer was head of Humboldt Fire #1 for many years. Was decent during that tenure then retired and now has an axe to grind with the planning dept. Comes in with a pre-set agenda. Good friend of Hum CPR too.

today regarding the railroad authority it was the bass/lovelace cabal.

citizens need not elect former public employees or those who made career earnings off of tax dollars as a top choice candidate. Ziemer has his bag filled too with questions regarding tax dollars and the job he had which aspired to the restrictions/eliminations of property uses/rights while supporting increased tax bases to fund job positions for fire personnel. Sorry to diss – a – ppoint.

I hope Greg’s time on the PC is every bit as successful as his time on the Central Committee. Errr… except without the condescention, yelling, and disgraceful exit. Other than that, exactly the same.
