Jefferson unlocking ceremony Saturday

The Westside Community Improvement Association (WCIA) will host an unlocking ceremony on the playground at Jefferson School Saturday August 6th at noon.

Another upcoming event for Jefferson will be a rummage sale on August 27th.  WCIA is gathering items for the sale.  Call the office at (707)444-2988 or email lets.buy.jefferson@gmail.com to arrange a pick-up.

Further down the road, WCIA will host an event called “Jefferson…Embracing Our Past and Planning Our Future” on October 15th.  The group is currently gathering photos and stories about Jefferson School, and soliciting public input on the future of the site.

Keep up with WCIA on Facebook.

I have never been to an unlocking ceremony before. What happens at such an event? Will it be formal?

I saw them working on it today. The place already looks brighter.

I hear that they’re going for some very large grants too, and may have someone willing to remove the asphalt for free. This could really turn into something special!

The unlocking ceremony on Saturday August 6th at noon, if I understand this correctly, will be opening the gates to the playground-so the children in the neighborhood can have access to a playground. There will be food for everyone and a welcoming ceremony. As sterile as it appears, it does have full court basketball, play areas for team ball games and is off the street-for bikes and scooters. The playground gates will be locked at night and someone will patrol regularly to keep the area safe. Heidi is dooing a fabulous job, as usual. Nobody knows where she gets the energy. We are looking for donations for the sale on August 27th; probably both Saturday and Sunday (the 28th). No clothing please, but gently used and vintage items are urgently needed-we will pick up, and we will be most grateful for any help you might provide, hint, hint.

A Westside voice I heard yesterday wants Heidi to run for City Council. But I think she’s going to have her hands full.

Heidi is obviously an extraordinary multi-tasker…she needs our help and support with what she has going on already…I would like to see her do what ever she wants to do and believe she will do it well..even rest once in awhile.

If you didn’t see it, Heidi did a very nice job speaking before the City Council last Tuesday inviting members to this unlocking and informing the public about Jefferson School events.

Heidi was gracious in taking the high road extending a friendly invitation to all– and an olive branch of working together for the future. Her words were well received.

Heidi is a class act all the way. She would make a great council member. If Eureka had true ward voting she’d win election on a write-in campaign.

“If Eureka had true ward voting she’d win election on a write-in campaign.”

Nope. She doesn’t live in Eureka.

I sure hope they have insurance before they let children play on the playground.

I’m not sure of how liability works in these cases, but that does seem like a legitimate concern.

That’s so sweet. HiFi’s advice proves that he really does want this community effort to succeed.

    Yep we are insured
    Yep we need help
Yep I live in Cutten…am I a westsider to the core?
The ceremony was fabulous, Joey (a neighborhood youth) cut the ribbon. Lots of kids and lots of neighbors turned out for the event. We had nice, healthy food. fresh fruit, homemade salsa, cookies, healthy baked goods, we had Hebrew National hot dogs. We also received over $900 in donations. There were people from all walks of life and all ages.

Our next fundraiser is the rummage sale on August 27th maybe the 28th too. We still would love donations of gently used items (leave a message at the number below ) or call Sylvia at 445-4955.

The I’m In campaign has now added bumper stickers (for those who decorate our cars :)

If you want to help, share your craft, your talents your ideas, your passion oh and yes those who can… your money, please let us know.

We are presently addressing deferred maintenance and trudging along slowly and steadily. We are following all the rules, being fiscally conservative, optimizing resources literally being blessed right and left with public and professional support. Wow man, everytime we get a donation of materials or labor it is literally the value off of our renovations bottom line. Thanks everyone for all the donations, the horn honks, the volunteer hours, the prayers. EUREKA ROCKS~!!! all of us I just cant believe the support!!!.

Thank you, thank you, thank you
