Quote of the Day

It seems very disturbing, as a pastor, to be using the Bible to induce the victim to participate — in essence seducing her with Bible passages. — Humboldt Superior Court Judge Bruce Watson at the sentencing of former Arcata pastor Dino Cardelli, who got the maximum prison sentence allowed (18 years) Monday for sexual abuse of his daughters.

    August 23, 2011 at 9:43 am

Why? The Bible is full of stories celebrating people who slept with and whored out their daughters. As a pastor, he should know that.

The founders of this religion would wholeheartedly agree. We have a whitewashed view of Christianity.

When Cardelli’s guilty plea was announced on this blog, the Gallegos-haters pounced, claiming in the comment thread that Cardelli was going to get off easy, that he would probably just get probation.

Didn’t quite work out that way, did it?

The seduction is disturbing no matter what the method, candy, money, goodies, whatever, or the bible. No surprise here that religion is used for selfish or evil purposes.

I’m sending my best wishes to the victims, I hope they can have a reasonably normal life.

There is another problem with the Bible that I ran into . There are only 2 churches in Humboldt County that truly understand the Bible and how to get to Heaven . They are Full Gospel Tabernacle in Eureka and Truth Tabernacle in Fortuna . . I know because I am a former member of Full Gospel Tabernacle and I used to try and convert everyone who did not belleive what those 2 congregations believe . The sad part is that that the same organization they are in , the United Pentecostal Church has had problems in some communities with pastors sexually abusing children . One of them is from Redding and is now in prison after being a pastor for 38 years .

I am not against Christianity and the Bible but I am opposed to all of the hypocracy and ignorance associated with it . People of all faiths have to be able to get along in society and that means accepting the reality that not everyone is going to agree with them on everything and it also means uisng simple common sense in relationships with children whether they are our own children or someone elses .Anyone who claims to be a Christian and is sexually abusing a child is demonstrating by their actions that they really do not hold to the morals of the Bible . In my observation of most Christians , there is a healthy balance in the way that they live in society and the way that they treat people .

One of the reasons I left Full Gospel Tabernacle is because I ended up with a distorted image of God as a murderer of anyone who dares to have any serious problems that they do not solve iquickly enough . I also ended up very alarmed when I realized that one of the church’s conditions for getting to Heaven was to speak in tongues . I can tell you for sure that some of those tongues did not come from God and some of the people who were supposed to be on their way to Heaven were sometimes a threat to the safety of people in our community .

I personally do not endorse any particular church organization because I beleve that faith is an individual commitment that someone needs to evaluate for themself . I have been criticized in my time for not being bold enough or for not agreeing with what some Bible thumper says but I really don’t care . I try to get along with people in my community and I do not think that I have to carry a Bible around everywhere I go and claim to know everything about the Bible when in fact the greatest of all Bible scholars do not claim to know everything about everything . Somewhere in Dino Cardelli’s heart and life , he failed to develope a proper balance between faith and acceptable behavior which ended up damaging lives . I sadly fear this is not the last story that we will ever read about here locally .

It comes as no surprise that these evil predators choose to prey on the devout. There is a certain gullibility that comes with being a true believer making them easier marks than the more cynical of us.

  9. August 24, 2011 at 7:58 am

It must have been disappointing to discover problems with Full Gospel Tabernacle. Good luck with Truth Tabernacle.

  10. August 24, 2011 at 8:52 am

You can find evil predators everywhere. There is a percentage of people who are just sick or evil.

You can’t blame that church or churches in general for the fact that some end up as pastors.

Bill, you said: “Anyone who claims to be a Christian and is sexually abusing a child is demonstrating by their actions that they really do not hold to the morals of the Bible .”

Isnt a sin a sin? Whats the difference between sexual abuse and any other lust, greed, ect…? Since jesus forgives you when ever you ask him, it seems easy enough to rationalize the occasional sin. The bible also has quite the array of “morals”, from love your neighbor to seek wrath and vengeance on the unfaithful. So perhaps the guiding compass is confusing people too.

  12. August 24, 2011 at 9:29 am

    Perhaps this will help, Bolithio:

  13. Bill Iskra
    August 24, 2011 at 10:12 am

The reason I singled out the 2 churches I named was that they claim to be the only true churches in Humboldt County . Because of some of their doctrines, it is easy for predators to fit in undetected . In . I will not go into specific details because I have not been in the church in Eureka for over 16 years now and I have never been in the one in Fortuna . I will however say that there was a time when I had some concerns for the safety of my children . When Senior Pastor David Bishop of the Redding UPC was arrested for sexual abuse of minors after serving 38 years , it confirmed what I had been concerned about, the abuse of authority that is prevalent in the UPC where members are not supposed to question the authority of a pastor even when he is wrong . In one case in another state , a mother whipped her son for accusing an associate pastor of sexualy abusing him. The wife of the predator who had actually been involved in some of the acts , turned herself in and testified against her husband .

I am sorry if I have put down anyone’s church but when any church orgainzation claims to be among the few in the world that represent the One True Church , I expect to see less cases of sexual abuse of children . There are many cases I could mention but I don’t need to , the truth speaks for itself .

I realize that no Christian is without sin or sins in their life whether it be something they struggle with occasionaly or all of their life . However , I consider how non Christians look at Christians who commit the sins of sexual immorality with children and usually in such cases , if the sexual acts are ongoing , the predator is unrepentant of that sin and that is what people Christian and non Christain are seeing .

There is a huge difference between a Christian who makes mistakes such as saying things that they should not say , geting drunk on a few occasions , or getting angry . Usually such people will repent and if they have offended anyone by their conduct , they will apologize . However , when someone is continually sexually abusing a child and does not at least seek professional help to deal with the problem , they are not likely to be repenting , and they are certainly not likely to be apologizing to the victims . Even after being arrested Dino Cardelli did not show any evidence of repentance and in fact demonstrated just the opposite . Calvary Chapel in Arcata is a good Bible believing church and it is unfortunate that their pastor brought scandal to their congregation .

You CAN blame the church for supporting an unsanctified minister. The doctrinal errors that the church holds have made what the Bible describes as a “cage of every unclean and hateful bird,” and the “habitation of devils.”

And if you can not persuade the members to change their evils and doctrinal errors, which have led to the evils, then you must come out, or else you become a partaker in their evil deeds. Give a read to the eighteenth chapter of Revelation.

    2 Corinthians 11 states:

For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (v.13)
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (v.14)
Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (v.15)

Maybe Satan is attending your church.

I agree with Hi-Fi on this one.
I think the root of the problem is the concept of: “Executive Sole” meaning that a person in authority has the power to act on his own. This is necessary in capitalism. But it is the root cause of corruption. Maybe I’m just too much of a socialist, but no one should be able to act on his own in any organization comprised of a multitude of people. There needs to be oversight. Look at the catholic church (my church) as an example. Bishops have almost no oversight and look at the mess they’ve made of things.
And of course in religion, some people start thinking they’re special and the rules don’t apply to them.
Ultimately these people are driven by vanity and ego.

    tra ,

You made a good point that I need to remember .

    Bible Thumper ,

Those are good points from the Bible . However , it is difficult to deal with any pastor in any congregation where the pastor is well liked by so many of the people in the congregation and they believe that the pastor has special communication with God . My pastor was not sexually abusive and I am thankful for that . However , he was beyond correction when he was clearly wrong and the church had no governing board to take my complaints to.. Since I left the church , I have learned so much about the Bible that I never knew because I was only taught what the church organization wanted me to know . My former pastor had a saying , ” You can’t know more than the preacher . ”

I was among the people in my former church who were openly condemend by the pastor during his Sunday morning sermon . In one incident with me , it was over an issue invollving the abuse of authority by a departmetal leader which the pastor refused to deal with . To the best of my knowledge none of the people who were openly condemned are attending the church now . Hoperully , I will not read in the newspaper of any acts of sexual abuse of children by any of them members of the church but if I do , I will not be shocked . Any group of people who can work together to pervert what the Bible says are opening the doors for predators who will not be likely to be detected if they go along with everything the church believes and are loyal to the pastor .

A few lines that a pervert may use to try to seduce your child:

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

John 15:9-17 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love,

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

Beware of those who preach love.

  25. tra
    August 24, 2011 at 2:47 pm

And definitely beware those who preach that religion should dominate politics:

An emerging Christian movement that seeks to take dominion over politics, business and culture in preparation for the end times and the return of Jesus, is becoming more of a presence in American politics. The leaders are considered apostles and prophets, gifted by God for this role.

The international “apostolic and prophetic” movement has been dubbed by its leading American architect, C. Peter Wagner, as the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). Although the movement is larger than the network organized by Wagner — and not all members describe themselves as part of Wagner’s NAR — the so-called apostles and prophets of the movement have identifiable ideology that separates them from other evangelicals…

I would lengthen it Tra. To:

“Beware of those who preach love, for they are the best at hatred.”

    And add:

“Beware of those who preach peace, for they are the best at war.”

Well, some of them are, but not all. Folks like MLK, Jr. and Ghandi preached love and peace, but I would have a hard time labeling them as “best at hatred,” and “best at war.” (Now I suppose perhaps if they had practiced more hatred and war, really put their minds to it, they could have been become really “good at” these things, too…but the fact that they didn’t is kind of the whole point.)

Anyway, I’m defintely skeptical of preachers of all sorts, but I try not to become entirely cynical about them.

Some historical quotes about Satan at the head of the church.

    Martin Luther said:

“The time of silence is past: the time for speaking has arrived. The mysteries of Antichrist must at length be unveiled.

“The Pope should be ready to renounce the popedom, and all his wealth, and all his honors, if he could thereby save a single soul. But he would see the universe go to destruction sooner than to yield a hair-breadth of his usurped power.

“The church of Rome, formerly the first in holiness, has become a den of robbers, a place of prostitution, a kingdom of death and hell: so that Antichrist himself, were he to appear, would be unable to increase the amount of wickedness. All this is as clear as day.

“I know that the Pope is Antichrist, and that his see is that of Satan himself.

These convictions must be a real disappointment to Rose and her gal Allison Jackson. Speaking of which, as anyone seen Allison since the day after the election? Has she even been back to her office? I’ve never known anyone to go from such a position of prominence, including all of her election night TV interviews, to total oblivion as quickly as Ms. Jackson did.
You might remember that she was on record opposing any plea bargains in these cases, but rather stated that she would insist on a trial, victim’s painful testimony, cost to the county, and risk of losing on a technicality, all be damn.
I don’t know what rock Allison crawled under after the disappointment of having lost that election, but I’d hate to think how she would have dealt with the pressures of holding the office, if she couldn’t take the pressure of her loss at the polls.
It turns out an even emotional temperament is a relevant trait for this high pressure office and that’s one characteristic that Gallegos has proven to have in spades, considering all of the crap that’s been thrown at him since the day he took office and how well he’s always kept his cool. Thank goodness that none of the three emotionally unstable characters who challenged him in the last campaign hold this office.

  45. Bible Thumper
    August 28, 2011 at 9:02 am

Sadly for Mr. Cardelli, for all practical purposes, God didn’t exist. Professing to love God, but in works denying Him. The word of God states that the entire purpose of God, humbling himself and becoming a man, was to save us FROM our sins:

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (v.20)
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (v.21)
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, (v.22)
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (v.23) Matthew 1

The real undeniable evidence that God is with us, is that our lives are changed, transformed into the moral image of God. That is salvation. There is no such thing as salvation IN sin. That is a lie of the devil and his antichrists. The lie that you can go on living in sin, just keeping your sins confessed and doing works to earn merit for salvation.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (v.5)
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. (v.6)
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. (v.7)
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (v.8) 1 John 3

Dear Christian friends, God has something to prove in you.
