Bat N’ Rouge 2011

Tickets on sale now!

Press release below.

(Arcata, Calif.) Last year Bat N’ Rouge raised more than $20,000 and helped purchase the Stromberg property for the Arcata Ridge Trail. This trail will eventually run from Sunny Brae to West End Road.

The event is a collaborative effort between the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Queer Humboldt, the Humboldt Trails Council and many community members and is the kick off event for Humboldt County Pride weekend.

This year we are doing it bigger and better and we hope to stuff the Arcata Ballpark with more than the 1200 people who attended last year.

Bat N’ Rouge – softball with a twist, will take place at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday, September 9, 2011 beginning at 6:45pm.

The Arcata Ridge Trail Committee has been working on raising funds for the purchase of parcels between Arcata Community Forest and Sunny Brae Community Forest. The acquisition of the parcels will provide permanent protection of open space, timber resources and watershed values, wild life habitat and corridors and access for recreation.

Bat N’ Rouge is a wacky softball game with all the bells and whistles of a convential softball game including our fabulous PPQ’s (Pom Pom Queens). the rules have been waived, cheating is a great thing, and homeruns can be purchased. The entire game is choreographed by the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgenced with live music and traditional game sound effects. Community members are excited to change from their traditional clothing into “drag garb” and batter-up , all while raising money for a great cause. Food and beer from Plaza Catering, Big Pete’s and Lost Coast Brewery will be available for purchase and a special All-Star VIP section will be offered in the picnic area where attendees will be wined and dinned in a more exclusive manner.

Media contacts please email travis@venatoremedia.com for tickets. For more information call 845-3873 or visit eurekasisters.org or humtrails.org. Tickets are available on line at eurekasisters.org or at any HealthSPORT locations, Lost Coast Brewery, Good Relations, Arcata Exchange and People’s Records.

What?! No comments about the cowardly murder in Fort Bragg ?! Aren’t those pot growers just great guys (and gals)?!

Have to say it…the “sisters of PI” are getting seriously boring.

There was no pot involved in the shooting nor was is murder Anonymous @ 12:56. Sigh.

The person that murdered the Fort Bragg City Councilperson was growing OPIUM, not pot.

    REPEAT: OPIUM, not cannabis.

I said it two years ago when the price of pot dropped out that sooner or later people would start to grow opium, and we would see the DOMESTIC production of heroin begin.

    Welcome to the new reality.

A commenter on Kym’s blog says that they only found about 100 poppies at the site of the shootings.

I don’t know the source of that claim (I haven’t had time to click through and read / listen to all the links Kym provided), but if the commenter is right that there were really only 100 or so poppies at the guy’s camp, well that doesn’t really sound like a commercial operation.

I do tend to agree with you that the falling prices for ganja will probably tempt some folks to try growing opium poppies on a commercial scale. Of course those who do will be risking a very lengthy prison sentence.

However, I’m not sure if this particular case is actually an example of poppies being grown for “domestic heroin production” or not. I guess we’ll see what kind of additional information becomes available in the coming days.

Please people…spare us the hair splitting. Your local pot growers are armed to the teeth and seriously paranoid. Don’t get the idea that you can go bird walking in the hills around here.

Your local pot growers are armed to the teeth and seriously paranoid.

Well, at least a few of them are. But it only takes a few people who are armed to the teeth and paranoid to make for an unsafe situation out there.

However, it’s not yet clear that this particular case has anything to do with pot growing.

Your odds are still better roaming our forests than walking the streets of Eureka. It’s all about the “fear thing.” Get a grip. You’re as safe as humans have ever been.

I hate pot growers, and their ilk, and this is their ilk. Illegal substances, until legal, need to go away. Killing people to save your ganja or your other grows? You’re trash.

I seem to recall a poppy loophole, where it is less of a criminal offense than growing pot? Maybe I dreamt it. Where’s Eric?

But, no poppies or pot at the bat n rouge (well, maybe pot). People 100 years from now, looking back on our generation setting up a public trail system through public lands, probably will be glad we did.

“But, no poppies or pot at the bat n rouge (well, maybe pot).”

There will be oceans of beer there for sure. Last year even the players were drinking beer while playing baseball. Some of the attendees were falling down drunk and the sisters were all staggering around too. Sister Fawn was especially shit faced. Sure, it’s a worthy cause but the alcohol abuse is stupid.

There was beer and people drinking it, but I didn’t see it that way.

You didn’t see the players drinking while playing baseball on the field? Queer Humboldt has posted photos showing that.

Also, you didn’t see the drunks vomiting behind the bleachers? Perhaps you were under the influence also!

  15. August 31, 2011 at 12:35 pm

Beer seems to go with Baseball.

A worthy cause is a worthy cause,

Yeah, it’s for a great cause that has nothing to do with ganja. Try to keep on topic people!

Beer and softball yes while raising funds for the Arcata Ridge Trail Project. Bat N’Rouge is a non smoking family friendly event attended by over 1200 people from across the political spectrum.

In the Middle, falling down drunk is “family friendly”? I disagree.
