With Bonnie Neely running her campaign, I see that she already is getting large donations from outside Humboldt County. Can she expalin the $4000 from out of state?

Her facebook page says that she is running agains “big money” with a “grassroots” campaign. Her out of state donations do not jive with her campaign claim.

Oh look-the lies have started from Rex’s campaign. Cheryl has raised $4000 total, not from out of the area, total. The truth never means anything to the Matthew Owen machine, so who cares, right! How much has Rex raised from special interests of Humboldt County-over $100,000-that’s cause for concern!

  6. Anonymous
    March 29, 2012 at 8:43 am

Looks like Matthew Owen is on here spreading lies again. Who else, but Matthew Owen, was at Cheryl Seidner’s kick-off, taking notes of who was there, including Bonnie Neely. Get your facts straight Mr. Bass, and prove it before you spread it!

Cheryl Seidner is a great candidate who is not beholden to the special interests of Humboldt County, unlike her opponent. You have garnered mass support in such a short time, Cheryl. You have frightened the Bohn campaign, and that’s why they are going to start the mud-slinging! Politics as usual for the right!

  10. just middle class
    March 29, 2012 at 8:51 am

I guess you should check her campaign statement because it is there. I guess there is a concerted effort to not address this smoking gun. Again, with Bonnie Neely running the campaign, her history is not one of clean campaiging, she is the Queen of Mean.

  11. Anonymous

I have all of the campaign statements, and this a a blatant lie. And, Bonnie Neely isn’t running her campaign, Matthew, again-prove it before you spread it. Where’s your proof of any of this. It’s pathetic that you can’t win an election on your own merits, instead, you must smear the other candidate. You must be so worried about what’s out there on Rex-good luck right-wing haters!

They blew $130,000 trying to put Rex on the City Council. Now they have moved him across town and spent $50,000 trying to keep others out of the race.

    How is it working?

    Rex Bohn 39.81% (41 votes)
Annette De Modena 2.91% (3 votes)
    Cheryl Seidner 45.63% (47 votes)
    Undecided 9.71% (10 votes)

Not bad for $4000. Thanks to SoHum Parlance for the poll, and thenks to Cheryl for standing up to these Eureka pols!

….Nah. Just keep repeating it louder and louder. If Just Middle is representative of the brains behind Rex, I’d say he is in big trouble.

HUUFC says: Government schools are a special interest? Huh???

Eureka’s grade schools and Eureka High school are special interests? The kids who attend these schools are a special interest group? Ooohhh, Bad. Government has no business looking after concerns of every kid in the first district. Can’t have those evil schools and the evil socialist children who attend them expecting any government support.

HUUFC, I’d ask for clarification, but why bother? Did you ever get out of the third grade?

Bohn supporters have posted hundreds of comments on Heraldo, yet, none mention any of Bohn’s issues, vision, platform, etc.

When pressed on his leadership experience, they always refer to “little league and volunteer auctions”.

Thus, it’s easy to understand their fear of Seidner, someone with a dozen years of actual leadership experience, and a 28 year career successfully shepherding thousands of young, under-privileged 18 year-olds into a university degree.

In the worst economic collapse in 80 years, voters are smart to vote for experienced leadership.

Interesting numbers in today’s (03/30/2012) Times Standard from the latest finance disclosure forms of the candidates.

So far Cheryl has raised $4,274 in campaign contributions compared to Rex’s $142,883.

Lord Arkley took the spoils of his many layoffs at Security National and invested them with Rex National. His ROI (if he wins) is much better with Rex, even if it is on the backs of his once loyal ex employees.

    March 30, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Cheryl is new to the race and Rex has been in the race since last year, and he has significant support, shown by his donations. Remember his events are very well attended, like his Redwood Acres kickoff with over 1000 people, a record for any race in Humboldt County. So if raising little money is a reason for voting for someone, Annette should get your vote.

Instead of all this conjecture on how is on Cheryl Seidner’s campaign team – why don’t you just ask her?

How many times was Bonnie elected? 5, 6? Berg was elected 3 times, the max she could before being termed out, at the age of 70-something.

Looks to me like they know how to win elections pretty well. How’d Rex do last time he ran for something?

Many months into the Bohn campaign, with hundreds of Pro-Bohn comments on Heraldo, and still, not one word in defense or explanation of one of his goals, an idea, a plan, a vision….that sets him apart??? just: “little league, auctioning….and critics are haters”??

And you wonder why many Eureka voters think, “he was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.”?

    What’s to “hate”?

Harold, Bohn ISN’T a man of vision or ideas.
His plan and goals consist of getting himself elected to the B of S as RA’s proxy.

I don’t hate Rex, in fact I like him. He’s a great fund raiser and works hard for the kids and youth sports. But as a Supervisor, no way. This position takes intellect, independent thinking, willingness and ability to listen to constituents with an open mind and put a personal agenda aside. In order to effectively represent the PEOPLE of Humboldt County, a Supervisor needs to be able to listen. I have asked Rex about concerns I have and he has a pat answer that someone has given him. He puts no thought into it. I went to Rexs kick off, I’ve known him for 30 years and wanted to hear his pitch. It wasn’t Rex’s. It was the machine’s. He used catchy terms like economic engine but when I talked personally with Rex about specific economic conditions effecting Humboldt, he either had the pat answer, a lame answer or tried to change the subject. One example. “Rex, what about these barges full of un processed wood leaving Humboldt Bay?”, answer “last time we tried to mill it ourselves we did it wrong and it all got sent back”. Truth, ships fill with fuel, timber companies sell logs, that’s Rex’s economic engine. Line the pockets of those funding his campaign and turn your back on the REAL economy , the people trying to scratch out a living here.

I have not heard Seidner yet, but I am impressed by her list of accomplishments she doesnt seem to quit, she worked at the same job helping students for 28 years while concurrently serving as chairwoman for the Tribe (for 12 years) and completing the other impressive list of accomplishments. A background in Tribal politics is something to seriously consider, it can be highly contentious and really takes the ability to collaborate and calm tension. I have heard stories of guns being pulled and some really really contentious arguments over issues. 12 years as tribal chair? I wan to hear what she has to say (just busy, I’ll make it to one of her events).

I like D’Modena, but she leans a little Tea Party, she seems more like a conservative activist who really wants to be in the race, not necessarily prepared for the role of a Supervisor. Nice enough lady though and if she was the only other candidate I may have considered working on her campaign because she does seem like someone who will listen to the voters and learn how to effectively carry out her role as Supervisor I just dont think her background prepares her.

I tend to lean moderate to conservative and was a registered Republican for many many years, now I am Decline to State but only because I do not identify clearly with either of the main parties. I probably identify the most with Libertarian values and I really like what our local State Legislators do for us (look at the Southern Humboldt School bus issue, our Legislators got those guys right in to where they needed to be and stood in solidarity. I respect that regardless of party and would like to see more of that focus on the people and the issues locally.

Local politics are not about parties, candidates have political values that should be considered, but the candidates especially Board of Supes and City Counsel, should primarily be concerned with the People and the Issues of their respective district or Ward. We do not see enough of that anymore.

So my evaluation is Rex-No, doesnt support the people, supports the old timber bosses and fuel sales, will do what they tell him to do, he is a yes man who wants an 80K a year job.

D’Modena, only if I dont like Seidner, D’Modena will be a vote against “The Machine”

so far, what I read about Seidner impresses me. But I want to hear more.

Money, benefits, and “prestige” would all be gained by Rex. Bless his heart, he could use them but would not be a good policy maker. People need a listener, someone who will consider everyone. Does that sound like Rex to you?

Cheryl has her retirement and benefits and prestige already. Nothing personal to Rex or his support, but Cheryl Seidner is a great candidate for everyone.
