The Decline of Marriage

OK, not Humboldt-specific.  Just very, very funny.  This is the first time I’ve enjoyed an advertisement in a long, long time.  So, of course it follows that Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is “alarmed.”  In keeping with the Herald’s tradition of complete objectivity on all matters, large and small, we link to Perkins response.

H, for real? What about the smart meter deadline? What about poorly managed, greedy ACRC, trying to sue HWMA? Gay candy is a hot topic for some of the posters here. What with all the teabagging they are into. All the civil unions that end in divorce, this candy thing was bound to happen. The odds were against them form the start. It may have been the H8ers that set the final straw.

Since over half of heterosexual unions end in divorce (red states have the highest divorce rates and none of them allow gay marriage) and the percentage of people who prefer to be single regardless of their sexual orientation, it sounds like marriage as an institution is doomed.

“This is the last thing the markets need…”
    Absolutely brilliant!
    Thanks for posting that.

    Hilarious!
It may even represent progress that the company thinks suggesting Mike and Ike are gay might be GOOD for their bottom line…………
    Thanks for posting.

There are several other youtube videos that show up at the end of the first. The one “teens react” is almost as good as “celebrities react” (some parts are better IMO than some parts of “celebrities.”)

I hate to plug the ads, but I’ve got to admit they’re funny. I’m glad people working at ad agencies got to do something relatively clever. I’ve never had Mike and Ike candy in my life, but now I, naahh…

But they are funny. Not as funny as Tony Perkins, but funny.

What’s “Mike and Ike?” I Googled it…It’s reported to be an old-timey, nostalgic candy. Fruit flavored sugar. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen it much less tasted any. Is it an east coast thing? An old guy thing (but I’m an old guy so that’s probably not it)? A gay thing? Why is it on the Herald? I’m confused.

    Gil,

The ad campaign is encoding communications with Moscow. The Herald wanted to make sure Moscow didn’t miss it.

“The meme was in the can,” ready to go.
