Charges Dropped Against Pat Kanzler, Sign-Poster

Photo courtesy Andrew Goff at the North Coast Journal (I think/hope).

Charges against Patricia Kanzler were dropped by the District Attorney’s office today. She will not need to face trial.

Kanzler is a nurse who had the audacity to hang a poster of the American flag and the words “Freedom of Speech?” on the precious, precious courthouse lawn fencing, potentially leading to panic and riot on the part of the local supervisors and sheriff, and making for an untidy fence.

In other words, Kanzler is a nurse and a patriotic American.

Congratulations to Kanzler on not having to face further harassment from the county. Congratulations to those in the District Attorney’s office on not having to make fools of themselves at trial.

What about failure to comply with an officer’s instructions? That alone is a ding, even if the officer is wrong about the law.

Is that akin to the “i was just a good german soldier” Nuremburg defense?

    libtards are sad.
Driving by the Lawn today I noticed how nice it is to not have a bunch of bums laying about, bothering business doers. I suppose the libtard 99% has ruined protesting there for the real 98% of us.

Dismissed WITH prejudice hopefully . . .then comes charges for Malicious Prosecution.
“. . .nor having to face further harassment from the county” – you mean STATE. The State is always society’s enemy. The State has no power of its own, only what the people grant it. The State has no money of its own, only what the people give it.

@Anonymous, Failure to VOLUNTARILY COMPLY with a dressed in ‘color-of-law’ costumed, armed, breach of oath, employeed via the currency of the people, revenue troll, person, is via CHOICE. It’s all about choice, and being able to see THEIR* illusion.
I was there when Pat was apprehended, and when she was released shortly after.
Interesting, since ONLY a magistrate/judge has the authority to sign a release, otherwise, the ‘officer’ is stepping into the Judicial Branch, making a legal determination is not on his job description list.
Also interesting, a week ago a friend of mine was also apprehended and released in Eureka. The wet ink mark on the release line was, The New Matrix and some numbers.
I swear to Krishna, Alah, Buddha, & Jesus it’s true. I gotta get a copy.

Congratulations and thank you to Pat!

Right on, Pat. Good thing for all of us. Bummer you had to miss work to go to ridiculous court dates that the DA’s office knew would come to nothing.

    That is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE.
A cop tells you to do something- That alone does not mean you have to do it… at least according to ‘the law’… The officer might hurt you or arrest you or kill you if you don’t , but LEGALLY, the order has to be lawful. The duty that the cop is performing must also be lawful.

But more important… Is that really what matters here? We’re in a growing militarized police state. DISOBEY!! Raise your courage! Like Pat!

    Ponderz,
I’m guessing that you didn’t join in with the People of the ‘Occupy’ movement – too bad. One of the things that Occupy did, was bring those of us who are less fortunate (bums, as you refer to them – try giving a smile to them, it will brighten your day, their day, and any one of us who are within the same magnetic field) to our attention. HONESTLY, I’M SO TIRED OF THE SEP AR A TION BRAINWAVE that waaaay to many of us STILL cling to.
Nothing exists in a disconnected manner – Get over it!

“BUSINESS DOERS” – what planet are you from?
The translation, here in the real world, of ‘BUSINESS DOERS’ is: sheep entering the Administration Building, labeled court, to be fleeced. BAAAAAAAA!

The photo really does tell a story, so thank you Andrew Goff. First, look at where Ms. Kanzler is standing. She is off the sidewalk, at the edge of the lawn, facing oncoming traffic driving down 101. That is, she is blocking no one, out of the flow of pedestrian traffic, and in a good location to be seen by the people to whom she hoped to communicate her message.

Because the county’s beautiful fence is immediately behind her, if somebody were trying to conduct business with the county and was concerned that she was blocking their path, they would walk straight into the county’s fence if they were forced to step around her.

The precious, precious lawn, supposedly under the loving protection of the supervisors’ fence, appears equally lush and overgrown on both sides of the fence.

The Sheriff’s deputy, tasked with violating the United States Constitution, looks properly unhappy. Perhaps she is wondering why SHE has to do this job, instead of the supervisors or the sheriff/clown who has documented via email his abdication of his sworn responsibilities as regards public safety.

And, at least from the photo, the dangerous crowd disrupting county business appears to consist of three people looking dully on, not counting the deputies and the hundreds of dangerous, violent, bank-pooping protesters who must be just out of frame.

Wow! Super succinct and right on the facts. Thank you.

Looks like these days we only have to obey the laws we agree with and can ignore deputies if we disagree with their orders.

As Verbena-off-her-rocker says “We’re in a growing militarized police state”,but some of us still seem to do what they want, where they want. Where is the respect for law, what if 5 million ppl did their own thing, f**k the law, what wld happen ppl? You seem to overstep where the its blatantly useless and disruptful, not helpful.
Look where this county is now. Ppl are more torn than united.

So allowing local authorities to violate the constitution is your solution, Relfan?

  15. July 24, 2012 at 9:53 am

    High Finance,

Bingo! Not just ‘these days’ – it’s always been this way. The People are awaking. THEY, corporate fiction – dead. Hard to communicate with the dead, don’t you think?
    Fact and fiction can’t meet.
‘Law’ is a shared perception, it implies morality. ‘Legal’ is words on paper. My old standby saying is . . .the next time you’re thirsty, write down the word ‘water’ and see if you can drink it. How can words on paper apply to the living? Illusion. We must stop giving away any of our power to a self-imposed imaginary power.

  16. July 24, 2012 at 10:04 am

    RefFan,
You’re confusing ‘freedom’ with ‘liberty.’ And, you’re denying you’re own Divinity when you beLIEve that any one of us has any control over any other one of us. AND friend, have you not noticed that this is a global movement? How dare you suggest that we’re more torn apart! You’re spreading negativity – and that just won’t do. There’s plenty of negative vibrations, please don’t add to that.

Hi Fi is correct. You must obey the state, no matter what they say.

  18. Mitch
    July 24, 2012 at 10:32 am

FUUHC, HiFi is always correct, never more than this morning. That’s why George Washington was shipped off to Guantanamo Bay. Sometimes, torture is necessary to deal with dangerous terrorists. Washington’s impulses may be good, but he shouldn’t have disobeyed the Crown. Imagine what would happen to society if everyone thought they could make their own rules.

  19. July 24, 2012 at 11:06 am

FUUHC, and Mitch, MAYBE YOU BOTH SHOULD RE-READ HI FI’S POST.
If the STATE insists on having ANY authority (granted by me) over me, THEY best have in-hand something with my wet blue ink mark on granting that authority. As well, I checked with the Secretary of State, and to no surprise, my body’s name is not listed to ‘do business in this state ‘. . .but then neither is HUMBOLDT COUNTY – think about that for awhile. Imagine there’s no country, imagine there’s no heaven, imagine there’s no written rules – do you honestly beLIEve the People are so ignorant that we’d all be at each other’s throats? For what? The conquest of temporary doll hairs and more material possessions?
Voluntary Compliance via willful ignorance is NOT the path to liberty.
Only a few seem to realize (make real) that if you do not contract with them, none of their so-called ‘laws’ apply to you. NO MATTER WHAT THEY WRITE OR SAY to you. Rescind the existing (alleged) contracts you have been drawn into by deception and be done with them.

I don’t know where to begin, FQ. Where are people not subject to the laws of the nation or state they inhabit? Isn’t remaining in a country which you can freely leave an implied consent to abide by their laws, at least those which don’t violate the constitution?

Excuse me??? Damn! I should have lost that false arrest case 14 years ago. Dodged a bullet I guess.

  22. What Now
    July 24, 2012 at 12:10 pm

    To aptly summarize HIghly Fried’s world view, one need only know a single German phrase;
    “SIEG HEIL”.

  23. Gil Yule
    July 24, 2012 at 1:21 pm

You most certainly can choose to break the law (hell, I do it all the time, driving over the speed limit, etc.) but you must be willing to suffer the consequences. I believe Ms. Kanzler made that choice.

I would also like to believe the DA’s office realized the county would gain nothing by prosecuting her.The expense of a trial, taking up space in an already over-crowed jail and further dividing the community for a such a small act of civil disobedience would serve no one.

  24. July 24, 2012 at 1:38 pm

    Plain Jane,
“. . .in a country in which you can FREELY live. ” No one of us is more enslaved than the one who beLIEves she/he is free. And, you can’t freely leave unless you ‘purchase’ a passport. On the application for the passport, you check either U.S.Citizen (14th Article in Amendment, not-ratified, slave), or Non-Citizen National (proclaiming your state’s rights over the Fed.) – as far as their application is concerned.
We weren’t signatory to the Federal Constitution – which many Founders refused to sign – they smelled a rat. If you’re not signatory to a contract, does it apply to you?

We keep looking for liberty in documents created outside our time. We are timeless and the creation of a greater power.

And once again the Heraldas pat each other on the back for the same opinions that they all agree with. And if you don’t, they can ridicule your opinion.

Cut the crap about free speech. Occupy Eureka achieved zip. This is just another excuse by libs to bash police and exert your speech and your entitlement over every one else.

Everyone chill. We are neighbors and friends who agree on most things in life. Family, faith, the golden rule, the niceness of sunny days. Painting groups of people with a broad brush is neither fair nor kind. We can agree to disagree without going all aggro on each other. Thank you.

This is all about free speech and peaceful assembly. Occupy Eureka was one of the longest surviving Occupy. This is not about bashing police, most of the officers did remarkably well having been tasked with carrying out bad policies and then bad law. This is also not about ignoring the rotten apples in police uniforms.

Even you, Anonymous, can see that Pat took a risk for something she believes in strongly, the free speech rights guaranteed in the First Amendment. The charges have rightly been dismissed. Good call by the DA’s office.
