Warehouse Workers Strike at CA Walmart Supplier
From The Guardian:
The striking workers at the NFI facility have filed an official complaint with California labour authorities on conditions that they say show inadequate safety protection, not enough access to drinking water in warehouses that can reach 125 degrees on a hot day, and a management culture that bullies them.
They also say that workers listed in their legal complaint have since been retaliated against by things such as demotions or reduced hours, and the threat of losing their job.
Meanwhile, more news from Mitt Romney’s America:
Some of the Sparrows Point steelworkers who took their employer up on an offer to retire in August and get a $10,000 bonus have been told they won’t receive the money after all, their union says.
Joe Rosel, president of the United Steelworkers Local 9477, said Wednesday that between 100 to 200 workers retired last month with the understanding that they were eligible for the bonus. Some — he couldn’t say how many — have since been told they retired too late to get it.
Sorry folks, when we shut the place down, we need to provide six figure bonuses to the people who matter.
