Part 2 of Local Pot Documentary debuts tonight

[Announcement from KHUM]

The second episode of the radio documentary series ‘The Humboldt Chronicles’ debuts on KHUM Thursday, October 18th. Titled “Growers – They Walk Among Us”, the program seeks to examine common stereotypes about who grows marijuana, and why.

The documentary is hosted by Kym Kemp, who will:

  • take you into an attic grow room,
  • show you a three-foot-long joint, and
  • talk to a mom who grows for her kids’ sake.

Says Kemp, “In this episode, we try to let growers explain why they’re not always the stereotypical dread-headed dude.”

Immediately following the documentary’s debut, the show’s producers will host a live call-in community forum on KHUM (104.3 / 104.7 / KHUM.com) about Humboldt’s marijuana-growing community.

The program will air on the following stations:

KHUM: Thursday, 10/18 6pm, Sunday, 10/21 7pm, Tuesday 10/30 1pm, Saturday 11/3 1pm
KSLG: Saturday 10/20 4pm, Thursday 10/25 6pm
KWPT: Friday 10/19 1:30p, Sunday 10/21 4pm

I can’t be the only one tired of reading about pot? Not complaining about the post. Just wondering if anyone else is getting annoyed with reading about it every day, everywhere?

The answer, Fred, is yes. I am, for starters.

However, it’s the big industry in Humboldt, after government and education. So it has a large effect on each of our lives and affects everyone’s pocketbook. And it happens to be illegal, so there’s always going to be more than the average amount of conflict involved, which means more than the average amount of interest.

  3. October 18, 2012 at 7:20 pm

I know. Just wondering if I’m the only one tired of hearing about it? I’m used to being the loneliest guy in the world. I suppose the pot issue is no exception.

  4. October 18, 2012 at 7:34 pm

I doubt that marijuana is a smaller industry than government and education in Humboldt. If you listened to the first installment of this documentary the estimates put annual local pot dollars in the billions. It’s bigger than the timber industry ever was.

If there are thousands of outdoor grows that are 4 mil or bigger…. Its the biggest industry in the county by FAR.

Yeah, I should have said biggest industry period. I don’t know what I was smokin.

It is a curse on this county and this country, and it is all about greed. nothing more.$$$$$$$ Nobody is talking about what the growers are doing to the land.

Well, here’s what the facts looks like to me. Mitch and his buddies write everything at this blog, then they comment ad nauseum on their own postings, then they delete anyone who disagrees with them. What a cyber-bully fascist blog this has become. Heraldo must be turning …

I’ve had the opportunity to, ah, attend a, a showing, you might say, or presentation of, ah, this porn rock, as they call it. In the test of pornography, one of the things to look at is it, it does not have any redeeming social value. Ah, there could be an exception here, because having attended that pres, presentation, the redeeming social value I find that is inaudible. I have a hard time understanding it, then. Paul, since I traveled the country for 3 years, ‘n they said they could not understand me. Maybe I could make a good rock star. I don’t know. Heh . . . But in all candor, I would tell you it’s, it’s outrageous filth. So, I’ll be looking from this Senator’s standpoint, not just to bring pressures but to try to see if there is some constitutional provisions to tax, or approach that can be used on the Congress to limit this outrageous filth.

Censorship is saying: ‘I’m the one who says the last sentence. Whatever you say, the conclusion is mine.’ But the internet is like a tree that is growing. The people will always have the last word – even if someone has a very weak, quiet voice. Such power will collapse because of a whisper.

It’s very easy to “impersonate” someone on this blog, but you can use the little-creature avatars to tell when it’s happening.

Please, please, please: don’t respond to the impersonator. He or she has already realized that no one bothers to check out their spam unless they resort to impersonation. Thank you.

1% Mitch sits in his Ivory Tower in Trinidad censoring the diverse voices in Humboldt County. 1% Mitch has silenced many of the bloggers who used to contribute to a Humboldt Herald which was the leading blog in our community. Under 1% Mitch, the Humboldt Herald has been reduced to a few Liberal points-of-view plus Just Watchin as the Token Conservative to kick around instead if Hi Finance. Why Heraldo turned the HH over to a millionaire in Trinidad is beyond me. Heraldo may be gone as well as Hi Fi but I’m here and I will be holding the Liberal’s feet to the Progressive Fire. Get used to it 1% Mitch.
