Gallegos blames media for Moore delay

Paul_GallegosIn what is perhaps the lamest excuse ever for why Paul Gallegos is enjoying day 518 without making a move on last year’s police shooting of Eureka resident Cheri Lyn Moore, the District Attorney is blaming the media.

Speaking with Channel 3 news today Gallegos said “this very interview may push the timeline back.”  If he offered an explanation for his remark, it wasn’t aired by Channel 3.

Perhaps the Times-Standard countdown is getting to the guy.  Poor thing.  The pressure must be up there with the stress felt by Moore’s family and the officers involved in the shooting.

Gallegos said a criminal Grand Jury has not been empanelled in the case, and declined to confirm whether he’d made the final decision to utilize a Grand Jury.

I’m glad you are highlighting this weird statement by “our” D.A.

When I heard it on TV tonight, I realized that he may actually have a screw loose.

Is there any provision in law for removing a District Attorney who has lost his compos mentos?

Um, it’s a count UP not a count DOWN.
Yet again Heraldo, you amaze us with your utter idiocy.

  4. September 12, 2007 at 7:42 pm

Gee, so smart! And touchy, too.

    I stand corrected.

  5. September 12, 2007 at 8:12 pm

    Heraldo! I’m shocked! And impressed.

  6. September 12, 2007 at 8:18 pm

The delay is bad enough. Blaming the media is aggravatingly laughable.

    Man!
Is Gallegos really the spineless twerp those people have made him to be.

    It’s certainly looking that way.

One way or another Gallegos is too compromised because of his dysfunctional relationship with the police

    Wheres the Attorney General?

The State should look into this matter. Appoint some kind of special investigator

Its a very divisive issue in our community, It needs to be resolved. Gallegos can’t do it , He’s too controversial.

  8. September 12, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Gallegos certainly deserves some of the criticism he gets, and this particular issue is in a serious downward spiral. He almost appeared to be laughing at himself on Channel 3.

    Or maybe that was me.

  9. September 12, 2007 at 8:40 pm

Never thought I’d say this but, robash141 at 8:21 is 100% right on this one. You, too, heraldo. Sorry to put ya in this position. LOL

  10. September 12, 2007 at 8:46 pm

You’re taking credit for me being right?

And hopefully the police will quit shooting on a whim so we aren’t constantly going through this over and over again.
Instead of blaming the media,he’s much better off blaming the agency which started the mess in the first place. Not saying he’s been acting appropriately on this case, and Garr Nielson is doing some good things to ensure public safety, but to blame the media when there are other outlets to blame is lame.

If someone points a “gun” at me and I was a police officer I would shoot them, its what they are trained to do. And if a 16 year old male, drugged out, charges at me with a 8″ blade I would shoot him too. Its there job to protect and serve.

  13. September 12, 2007 at 9:34 pm

The Moore situation was completely predictable. The cops knew what would happen when they busted down her door. Therefore, it appears they went in to kill her.

  14. September 12, 2007 at 9:48 pm

The State Attorney General’s Office should intervene? Yes, it should, that is a great idea. Oh wait, we live in Humboldt County. How much Humboldt Money went to getting AG Moonbeam elected? Gallegos can drag his feet as long as he wants because he knows the Sacramento boys are too busy looking for bigger headlines.

    That makes me sad.

It doesn’t help that PG refuses to ask.

  18. September 12, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Residents must have contacted the State AG’s office. If the family has felt frustration with PG, then somebody would have advised them to sent a letter, or place a call to the AG. Anyway, I would hope so.

“the stall is BS and mersquan’s mantra is BS too.”

Did Paul himself fire shots at Cherie Moore? That would be an interesting twist.

this very interview may push the timeline back.”

Mr. Gallegos would have us believe that he spends his time so efficiently that a moment taken to inform the public is a lost opportunity for justice.

  21. September 12, 2007 at 10:42 pm

Yes! The tribulations of being a crime fighting super-hero. He must be up late at night seeking justice. Nice take Ranger, PG does sound put out that he has to address the media, because he might feel he does not need to held accountable. (or something)

Mr. Gallegos would have us believe that he spends his time so efficiently that a moment taken to inform the public is a lost opportunity for justice.

Well said. But the sad truth is he didn’t inform the public of anything, aside from the fact that nothing’s changed.

Now, now, Dane. In fairness, Christopher Arrion Burgess, the 16-year-old you mentioned, was using a hunting knife that was 10 inches long overall, and it had a blade that was only 5 inches long.

On the other hand, something that many people fail to realize is how deeply a 5 inch blade can penetrate into a human body. The answer is that it can puncture much, much deeper than 5 inches.

  24. September 13, 2007 at 10:22 am

A five-inch blade is plenty lethal, just ask Bruce Shapiro of The Nation.

I agree with your comments Heraldo, except that the police went in Moores apartment to kill her. That is just inflamatory retoric.

  26. September 13, 2007 at 8:34 pm

Why? Are the cops going to testify they were shocked that she pointed her flare gun at them when they busted down her door? When she had done that very thing not two hours before?

I’d like to hear their excuse for why they thought this paranoid woman who explicitly said she feared the police would do something different.

    September 13, 2007 at 10:34 pm

People on the scene tell me that Moore was taunting the Police berating them. telling them they were a bunch of useless fuckers and whatnot.

I guess they could only listen for so long before fragile egos snapped and they went after her.

Besides what is the point of having all that fire power at your disposal if you can’t use it on someone.

  28. September 13, 2007 at 11:07 pm

Only for a moment, then the moment’s gone. Poof, robash141.

But you do have a point – what’s the use of having all that firepower at your disposal if you can’t use it on someone? Do you see why the DA should not be ordering semi-automatic weapons?

The Cheri Moore killing was the one that seemed the most preventable and the most uncharacteristic of the EPD. It was a shock for everybody including people who support EPD. Why no answers after all this time? The only plausible answer is that the D.A. actually is as worthless as his detractors have been saying he is. Does anybody have any other plausible explanations for his failure to act?

  30. September 13, 2007 at 11:39 pm

The degree of smug Gallegos displayed on Channel 3 was repulsive. He couldn’t confirm anything that was or was not happening, and blamed the media for his year and a half delay.

The EPD SWAT was out of line in the killing of Cheri Lyn Moore. Gallegos seems determined to overshadow that negligent abuse of police power by sitting on his hands for an obnoxious amount of time.

I think the cops are getting carried away with having all that expensive Johnny Rambo/ Commando gear when they say can’t even afford to take report when my bike got stolen so I really think It’s ridiculous that people who are not even Police should also have them

I agree, Heraldo, that his smugness was repulsive. His blaming the media for his failure to do his job vis-a-vis Cheri Moore was so bizarre, it makes a person wonder if he has had a brain aneurism or something like that.

It seems that the same type of bureaucratic thinking that neglected Cheri Moore during her lifetime is also not interested in pursuing any investigation into her death.

You could say that Bureaucratic thinking may have been in some way directly responsible for her death.
After receiving all of their cool new commando toys , courtesy of the taxpayers, the EPD may have been worried that their budget might be cut unless they actually used the damn things on a live target.

  34. September 14, 2007 at 6:43 pm

robash 141 and “good point” just don’t seem to go together.

Hearaldo didn’t you use to stick up for and support Gallegos? Is it just the Moore incident that changed your mind, or is there more? I’m not complaining …. just curious.

True I voted for Gallegos last time and against the recall but my support for him is conditional he has to do his job.

I, personally was never 100% enamored of him. He always strikes me as a schmoozer who promises everything to everybody.
I just thought he was better than the crooked ol’ boy Humco status quo alternatives that were presented.

Certainly Gallegos has his failings but I also blame in large portion his political enemies who have created such a poisonous atmosphere that they have helped to render him ineffective.
