Gallegos seeking endorsements

Supporters of a 3rd term for Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos can register their endorsement at votepaul.com.

The only official challenger so far, Kathleen Bryson, is keeping her campaign website well-hidden if she has one.

I can’t think of a better endorsement for Gallegos than Bryson announcing her candidacy.

Come on Heraldo… we don’t vote until November!

Try harder to come up with some better fake news please.

    Yawn.

Do not vote for Kathleen or Paul or the infamous Paul.

    Vote for Allison Jackson.

I wait to see who all is on the field before making endorsements. I think sometime in February is the filing date closure.

I’m not pleased with the 100 pot / Pot City regulation, or the sad history of losing and/or pleading out cases.

think sometime in February is the filing date closure.

Mid-March, if last year is any indication.

Jackson is the righteous candidate…always fair and honest…plus so good at putting those sex offenders away! For a long long time. Blessed be for the children’s sake!

  18. January 26, 2010 at 7:51 pm

Jackson’s acrobatic mud-slinging during the last Gallegos campaign got Eric Kirk into blogging. Humboldt County has never been the same!

  19. January 26, 2010 at 8:30 pm

    Mudslinging? Like pointing this out?

In 1997, CAST, the Child Abuse Services Team, opened its doors.

    In 1997
There were 137 CAST Child Interviews
There were 56 cases of alleged child abuse RECEIVED by the DAs office
There were 37 child abuse cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 1998
    There were 142 CAST Interviews
There were 52 cases received by the DAs office
There were 37 cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 1999
    There were 194 CAST Interviews
There were 81 cases received by the DAs office
There were 49 cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 2000
    There were 194 CAST Interviews
There were 66 cases received by the DAs office
There were 48 cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 2001
    There were 196 CAST Interviews
There were 65 cases received by the DAs office
There were 46 cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 2002
    There were 215 CAST Interviews
There were 66 cases received by the DAs office
There were 47 cases FILED by the DAs office

In January of 2003, Paul Gallegos took office

    In 2003
    There were 205 CAST Interviews
There were 67 cases received by the DAs office
There were 40 cases FILED by the DAs office

In June of 2004 Paul Gallegos fired his top child abuse prosecutor. (That would be Allison Jackson, for those who haven’t followed this debacle)

    In 2004
    There were 146 CAST Interviews
There were 50 cases received by the DAs office
There were 23 cases FILED by the DAs office

    In 2005
    There were 155 CAST Interviews
There were 35 cases received by the DAs office
There were 17 cases FILED by the DAs office

In the first four months of 2006
There were 40 CAST Interviews (on track for 120 interviews)
There were 4 cases received by the DAs office (on track for 12 cases received)
There was 1 case FILED by the DAs office.

    ONE.

ONE child abuse case filed. January to April of that year.
    *****
From my post on the Eureka Reporter article on the precipitous decline in child abuse prosecutions under Gallegos. link here
    and here

How many cases have you seen since then?

He has switched around his child abuse prosecutors – he had assigned jeffrey “yougofree.com” Schwartz to that position, even gave him a bog ol’ bump up in salary and step due to his ‘increased responsibilities.’

Yeah. I guess pointing out facts like that could be called mudslinging.

  20. January 26, 2010 at 8:36 pm

And btw, he has been taking Grant Money right along that is specifically designated for a “Vertical Prosecutor” for child abuse cases.

What does “Vertical Prosecutor” mean? Well, it’s like a reporter who covers a beat, or a story – they are assigned to it, they see it through. they do the research. They know all the ins and outs. They know the material and they specialize in that area of the law. They have all the contacts, they know who the experts are, they know the questions to ask, and they know how to apply the law.

Do you think that exists in Paul Gallegos’ DA’s office?

Or are the cases dropped in some overworked Deputy D.A.’s lap, with no warning and no time to get prepared?

You know the answer. But that would probably be called mudslinging, too.

  21. January 26, 2010 at 8:37 pm

It was her political smearing of Ed Denson, actually.

  22. January 26, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Damn. I am SO looking forward to this being over.

Vote for ABP. Anyone but Paul (Gallegos)

Some people can’t handle the requirements of supervision and flee back into their casework comfort zone. Paul seems to be doing that. The D.A.’s Office needs a competent full-time administrator. One who wants to enforce the law against criminals to protect the non-criminals among us would also be nice.

I was on a child molest jury last fall. It was assigned to a new deputy DA & dumped in her lap at the last minute.

Paul Gallegos sat next to her the entire length of the trial which lasted two weeks. He was whispering advice & instructions to her constantly. He must have been there 20 hours a week. My first thought was, who was running the office?

The jury selection was pathetic on the part of the prosecution. The picked three idiots who were bound & determined to never vote guilty. At least one of those three, maybe two of them should have been obvious to Gallegos/Firbo during selection & should have been excused.

During jury deliberations, the entire jury express anger at the DA’s office for such an inept prosecution.

  25. January 27, 2010 at 10:01 am

No matter what pretty face Gallegos’ campaign managers try to put on him this election, the FACTS remain.

He has not made improvements since the Grand Jury investigation into his office found him wanting.

The Humboldt County Grand Jury found that “Weak leadership and poor managerial practices” have undermined the office… Implicit in all evidence gathered by the Grand Jury – including interviews with the D.A. – is the unfortunate truth that the D.A. exhibits a limited understanding of how things are done in the department” Gallegos “lacks the global perspective needed to keep the department operating efficiently,” and quotes an unnamed staff member as saying, “The D.A. does not fully understand the functionality of many of the things we do here”

It has gotten worse. The problem is that he fundamentally does not understand the job. His early fuck ups were covered up for by Salzman’s vociferous efforts. That only goes so far, and now YEARS later, the picture has not changed.

Essentially, he is an EPIC FAIL.

    January 27, 2010 at 10:32 am

im happy to admit my failures. its just odd for rose to call a 2 time winner of the DA’s office an EPIC FAILURE. usually politicians who are failures LOSE races, not win races.

she WISHES and HOPES he fails in his election, but as of yet, hes been a winner.

  31. January 27, 2010 at 10:35 am

Gallegos was a 3-time winner if you include the failed recall attempt.

  32. January 27, 2010 at 10:37 am

Winning a race is not the same as succeeding at DOING the job. Sorry to get you spitting on your keyboard again. But he FAILED in the Palco case, which is one reason he has lost support.

  33. exrepublican
    January 27, 2010 at 10:41 am

like a poster on the thread about allison running said, this election will come down to one thing, pot. if gallegos doesnt get an opponent who is business friendly(pro 215), he has NO chance of losing. thats the bottom line.

  34. exrepublican
    January 27, 2010 at 10:42 am

im glad that he failed in the palco case, but that doesnt mean he has lost support. its about pot, baby….

“I am pleased to endorse Paul Gallegos and will vote for him in June.” I’m sorry, but this is a perfectly absurd statement coming from anonymous.

I am NOT impressed by the management in the DA office, not at all. I second the idea of ABP!@

For example, I am familiar with a white color accusee case which basically has the shakiest of foundations, was tried after 3 years of dinking around, result was a hung jury, and the office decided to go again!!! More months of waiting, more waste of resources such as public defenders and jury members. Meantime, drug growers and runners, welcome, open for business, that is Humboldt County. I say throw the lame-o out.

I’ve voted for Paul. I want to like Paul. He seems to share my political bent…but damn, he seems to keep fighting the wrong fight and letting some very bad people off with wrist slaps. I’m just an ordinary guy with little knowledge of politics or the law but would really like to see more positive results from my D.A. .

Well 4.26pm, Rose posts here less than you do. Does that mean you are worse than here ?

And Heraldo, do you endorse the concept that people who post on your blog regularly have something wrong with them ? You post more than Rose & almost as much as 4.26pm.

  46. Mr. Nice
    January 27, 2010 at 6:51 pm

Totally, Heraldo posts way too much on this blog.

  47. Paul?
    January 27, 2010 at 9:15 pm

I don’t know about Paul.He seems to be selling out those who put him in office, twice. He used to say he was against ANY form of prohibition and would never like to see any non violent person in trouble for herb with or without 215. He said it was the lowest priority. He lured tons of people into moving here thinking it was fine then had a change of heart and allowed those folks to be brought down. He also promised to get the tweek out of the county and the tweekers off the streets of Eureka and into treatment. Now with the law clear maybe the people can go back to their county and not have a reason to stay here and there really is no reason to keep Paul as his guideline is void.

I endorse Paul Gallegos as dog catcher in LA and I hope he returns there soon.

Paul Hagen is the most qualified candidate in the race and if the good people on Humboldt County have the brains that God gave a lemon, they will see that and vote for Hagen.

Gallegos is not very bright and very biased. Allison Jackson about as bright and even more biased in a different direction. Hagen is the most fair minded candidate with the most experience in the most different DA offices. He is smarter than Jackson and Gallegos combined and does not have a political agenda they way Jackson and Gallegos do.

If you want a well qualified and fair minded DA, then please vote for Paul Hagen.
