Cops with cameras cruising Eureka

Tom on KGOE says the TV show “Cops” is patrolling Eureka.

But an employee from Northcoast Horticulture Supply sent us these shots taken at 4th and Commercial. (Click to enlarge).  He says the cops are from a show called “Speeders.”  Either way, better brush your teeth before screaming through Old Town with a broken tail light and a pocket full of meth.

Tom wrote on his blog:

They arrived yesterday and will be here for an undetermined amount of time. A friend of a friend received a ticket today and was asked if she wanted to go on the show. She declined the show but had to take the speeding ticket. The Hollywood crew is riding around in the cool looking black Dodge Charger that, for some reason the Eureka Police Department felt it needed.

Why would a cop show choose Eureka?  It’s not like it’s a hellhole.  In fact, it’s one of the best places to live.

Heraldo – Hardly the best place to live! If you read the article it actually said it was great to live in the Humboldt area because of the parks and trails. I mean if you really are counting on that to show we live in paradise, you really need to get a grip.

How come this all black Dodge Charger can enforce traffic? It hardly even looks like a police car. I don’t even think I would pull over for it. I would be concerned it is some police impersonator.

This “Cops” show (and others like it) paints a sad picture for our culture. Have we have become nothing more than sniveling stoolies just waiting to narc on the neighbor? everything from Nancy Reagans DARE program that encouraged kids to narc on their parents to Kevin Hoover trying to “get the scoop” by Knocking on your door asking you personal questions and bringing the media here to address pot growers “Come on Kevin the real issue is legalization”. But Robo Cop, good cop ,bad cop and Eddie Murphys Beverly Hills Cop all just paint a picture that the pigs have become immortalized in our cultures as good-ol boys that are just “doing there job” instead of the real story we get people sucking the dick of FOX news or the NYT just so they can be on T.V . Yes we have crime and Violence in society, but when you exploit it and make a show that makes millions off other peoples suffering, you become worse than the problem. you become COPS the T.V. series! If you get pulled over by these people, remind them of there bottom feeder position. Pariahs and pigs unite to entertain once again ! dont stay tunes people.

What amazes me is that cops is a favorite show in jails…I mean is this not a clue that people like to relate to what is on the boob tube? Some people must be noticed in any way they can be noticed and breaking the law is profitable to the prison industry and police unions, so play on the draw of those who have problems relating to reality by glorifying the arrest and ticketing hype and voila! people in search of the limelight getting arrested and ticketed for the thrill! I wonder if speeding goes up while they’re in town?

  9. July 10, 2008 at 6:56 pm

Ah ha! so that’s why there was a camera in the car…
I wondered. 10AM… spotted them on the 101 between Arcata and Eureka. Wasn’t speeding.. well not today anyway. Phew!

So I did a little research and I found out that law enforcement vehicles cannot be ALL black. Seem the California Code of Regulations says that cop cars can be all white, blk and white, or another color with a contrasting color but NOT all black. Seems to me that anyone who is given a ticket by this ALL black Dodge Charger could get it dismissed.

I’m having problems posting the link but here it is.

Is’t black “any other color”? Get a grip.

Vehicles, except motorcycles, shall be painted:

    (1) Entirely white; or

    (2) White, except that an area not less than and including the front door panels shall be black; or

    (3) Black, except that an area not less than and including the front door panels shall be white; or

    (4) Any other color, with any color front door panels.

I hope they find the dirty, low-down varmints who stole that poor man’s skull and used it for a soccer ball. Then I hope we all get to take turns using their balls for soccer balls. And then I hope they print their names and faces in the newspaper. And then I hope we ride them out of town on a rail after dipping them in hot tar and festooning them with mud hen feathers. And then… Don’t worry, I’ll think of something even better than mud hen feathers. Nothing but the best for the Young Ghouls of Humboldt County!

I’d rather watch a cops or a speeders show than most of the other reality crap out there, like what the kardashians, the lohans and denise richards are putting out. Plus, the car is a lot cooler than a boring old black & white. And if the people working with the show are staying in town and spending money here, what’s the downside?

  19. Ben
    July 10, 2008 at 10:00 pm

The downside is the public knowing what a nasty looking town Eureka has become.

Considering the CHP just sued Best Buys “Geek Squad” for using Volkswagon Beetles that had a similar paint job as CHP vehicles, EPD might want to spend another couple grand getting that car up to regulation.

Me and the missus just love to watch the cops shows on the TV. The kids tell us that we’re dumb because we never open a book. Shows you how little they know, snotty kids.

  28. July 11, 2008 at 9:04 am

They should ticket that charger for being parked too far from the curb. Surely, some clown who is “allowed” to write fines should be held accountable to the same code he collects money for.
The picture clearly shows that stolen charger parked too far from the curb, and violating the “law”.

  29. The Monitor

I think what strikes me as most interesting are the excuses that people offer when getting a ticket. Do they really believe anyone would buy what they say? Their 12 years old kids could come up with better stuff. just shows it doesn’t take smarts to get a ticket. Judging by the crazy drivers I see around here we could use 6 black bat mobiles around town. Have you ever noticed how may people run red lights on 4th and 5th?

My pet peeve is people, and especially cops, who drive through uncontrolled intersections when pedestrians are waiting at crosswalks. Have they forgotten that pedestrians have the right of way?

  32. July 11, 2008 at 10:17 am

Jane, you need to reread your drivers manual its been updated from 1985, peds dont have the right of way nor do bikes…

21950. (a) The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.

    (b) This section does not relieve a pedestrian from the duty of using due care for his or her safety. No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard. No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

    (c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle or take any other action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.

    (d) Subdivision (b) does not relieve a driver of a vehicle from the duty of exercising due care for the safety of any pedestrian within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.
