Sac looks at homeless camp
While the City of Eureka considers placement of a homeless camp, Sacramento ponders the same:
Mayor Kevin Johnson told The Bee he is open to the concept.
“I am actually optimistic that we’re going to get something done,” said Mark Merin, who has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the city and county on behalf of homeless people who by choice or circumstances live outdoors rather than in shelters. Merin argues that ticketing homeless people for illegal camping violates their constitutional rights.

Crescent City is also considering a homeless shelter. Their paper, The Daily Triplicate, is running a poll. Here’s the results so far:
Hawaiin(?) officials are actively discussing the purchasing of plane tickets to issue to all the homeless folks (not from the island) in order to send them back to the mainland USA.

You’d think cities opening homeless camps would be a good thing all around, and for each city’s homeless population it is very good. But what’s lost in the discussion is the traveling homeless, those who are largely homeless as a lifestyle choice. You see them every summer on the Arcata Plaza.
For that segment of the population, homeless camps are akin to tourist resorts. Where we going this summer? Oh man, let’s visit the redwoods and stay at KOA Arcata.
Certain groups who shall remain purposefully nameless used to extol the practice of sending Blacks back to Africa. By the way, to which city will the homeless Hawaiians be sent?
Oh no.
I mean aloha
Ed,

Dare I suggest a location? There’s a nice piece of property behind Nilsen’s Feed down on Broadway.
I remember Mrs. Arkley suggested the area around the former Rockin’ R property.
